In 1995, Yuki Ito prototyped the Destroyer of traditional bass rods, drawing upon his hand-carved ARMS to unleash an unrivaled fusion of craft and technological innovation upon the Japanese bass market. Each subsequent generation of Destroyer reached beyond the standards and conventions of their time to establish a new benchmark. Anglers across the country can now get their hands on the latest and most innovative generation of the Destroyer Series, the Megabass Destroyer P5 (JDM) Spinning Rods.

The LAIHA program gave birth to a limited concept rod series in 2019, developed to test and refine standard-destroying technologies to push innovation past present limits. From this tireless effort the 5-D Graphite System was born. Representing a paradigm shift in the blank construction process, 5-D enables a more perfect realization of the Destroyer through a new method of patterning and layering unlocking untold potential.

Thus, with each generation, all change—especially destructive—is embraced in the technological pursuit of the angling ideal. Out of this cycle, the Megabass Destroyer P5 (JDM) Spinning Rods rise anew to challenge anglers to new heights.

Key Features:

MBCS Featuring a curved shape that is a marriage of structural integrity and the human form, MBCS rises from the blank to fit perfectly into the palm. This ergonomic fit not only increases grip and leverage for rod work and fighting fish, but it also transmits feedback by maximizing contact points between angler and equipment. Further, the palming grip encouraged by the MBCS is an anchor against torsional force enabling greater control.

ZALDAIN 3D DYNAMICS PERFORMANCE GRIP Designed with input from B.A.S.S. Elite Series Angler, Chris Zaldain, each hand-formed carbon fiber handle takes shape as if custom made for each angler’s hands providing comfortable contours for enhanced grip and the superior vibration transmission properties of carbon material.

DESTROYER 3D EMBLEM If you look closely, the brand-new Destroyer logo has been renewed. Once again, the new logo was painted by Yuki Ito with his brush refreshing the core philosophy of the series.

End Balancer Weight-saving improvements in blank construction, thread wrapping method reel seat, and head locker design result in a lighter rod, which allows for lighter counterweights to achieve the ideal “Takumi” balance for each application.

5-D GRAPHITE SYSTEM Newly developed through the experimental LAIHA project is the 5-D GRAPHITE SYSTEM. As the name implies, this blank construction methodology leverages five prepreg patterns to best address five elements—vertical axis, horizontal axis, oblique axis, elongation, and elasticity—and combine each in a painstaking puzzle matrix to maximize the application-specific performance of every blank. The cohesiveness of each completed puzzle enables a fusion of disparate parts, reducing the unnecessary prepreg overlap of traditional patterning and layering. This not only reduces material waste; it allows for a more precisely smooth taper and seamless load transition for truly intuitive performance.  Additionally, to further reduce unnecessary weight and improve performance, it utilizes a special thin-diameter fiber, which allows for tighter, more effective guide wraps to secure the Fuji Titanium frames with SiC-S Inserts. This minimizes any negative impact that hard epoxy guide wraps can have on the natural bend-curve of the blank.

HEAD LOCKING SYSTEM 3 Based on the machined-aluminum head-locking structure developed in the LAIHA concept project, the new Destroyer HEAD LOCKING SYSTEM 3 is the lightest of all Destroyer series to-date, minimizing any potential interference in blank resonance and vibration transmission through the reel, in addition to highlighting the purpose-built elegance of each rod model.

Excellent rodsI have always been a Shimano rod guy until I gave Megabass rods a chance. Everyone says they always had issues with their defective rods but for me I never had that issue. My first rod was a WINDBUSTER and my god this rod is versatile! I use it for everything! I’m not a bass guy but I do fish stripers, hybrids, sandbass, crappies and let me tell you; this rod is excellent! My next rod will be BABY PLUGGING for finesse fishing and I can’t wait! I will not be going back to Shimano rods.

Previous Feedback

Comments: Pick up a babys plugging and use it for nose rigging drop shot. Loads up beautifully and great sensitivity. I have it paired with a certate and enjoy using the combo a lot for Great Lakes. The handle took some getting used to but I've really come to appreciate it.

Comments: BUY A WINDBUSTER. HANDS DOWN THE BEST ROD. The versatility of the windbuster is unmatched. These p5 rods have 2 action to them. Threw a 3/8 chatterbait on the windbuster and felt every vibration and hits. Caught probably over 25 bass (3lb+). When throwing with the windbuster all you feel and see if the first action of the rod, but when you catch a fish the second action of the rod kicks in with a gorgeous parabolic bend that keeps the fish pinned. You will not regret this rod. Beautifully crafted.

Comments: Hands down the best rods you can buy, I don't even think it's close. They are durable, insanely sensitive, beautiful and the best balanced rods I have ever used. I have almost every mega bass high end rod in both spinning and casting. This has made me hate to use any other rod, be careful, if you buy one you will end up buying 4-6 of them if you spend alot of time on the water.

From: Rob : Rochester Ny 6/23/23

Comments: I bought this rod on its reputation of being versatile and it is just that. I also own a Loomis 872S NRX+ and they both do what they do exceptionally well. The Windbuster is not as sensitive as the NRX+, nor is the handle as comfortable for me with my large hands. Where the Windbuster exceeds the NRX+ is that the blank is more parabolic and allows you to throw more styles of baits with it. So, if what you are looking for is pure bottom contact sensitivity, get the 872S. The Windbuster will do that too, not quite as good, and a whole lot more. Owning both is pure spinning tackle bliss! Daiwa Certate 3000's balance out nearly perfect on both. The Loomis rod is slightly lighter, for the record.

From: Don: Florida 4/1/23

Comments: The p5 Windbuster is easily the most versatile yet sensitive spinning rods ever made. I own the NRX+ 822 dsr, 852s, 872s, Conquest 842s, GLX 852s, Steez Ags ML, Megabass Whipsnake and the Windbuster is King in versatility.

Comments: UPDATE: This rod is an AMAZING tube rod. Hundreds of smallmouth and every bite is felt very clearly. THE POWER OFTHIS ROD IS INCREDIBLE. I caught a 4lber in a river 10 ft out from me and I felt in control the whole time which is saying a lot. Great fluke rod as well. I have not used it for shakeyheads yet but I have heard this is great for them and I would say this will do it amazingly. This is on par with NRX sensitivity and I am going to grab another P5. It is not great for neds as they feel way to light for this rod and I had a problem with wind knots when throwing neds which I don't get on other rods.

The P5 Windbuster is crazy light (lighter than NRX) and very sensitive. I am a huge fan after the first fish was a 3lb smallmouth in current. So far I have used tubes, ned rigs, and finesse swimbaits on it and this rod has thrown all of them perfectly.

From: John: Illinois 3/24/21 & 8/22/21

Comments: These rods are amazing. Light weight and perfectly balanced. I have other high end rods but these are clearly superior. The Landsat at 6'11" has more available blank then most 7' rods because the reel seat is further down and it's still perfectly balanced. Rods are super sensitive. The Windbuster is a great rod if you like a rod with a little more power. It too is very balanced and sensitive.  At first I thought there wasn't a hook keeper but has a slot built into the seats winding chuck. Good idea. I am totally sold on these rods. Well worth the money.
