Overview

Delivering a hybrid blank design, the 13 Fishing Defy Black Cranking Rods are tailor made for crankbaits and all other sorts of moving bait presentations. They are constructed using a proprietary process that combines E Glass Elastomers with 24-ton graphite, resulting in an elastomeric composite with the parabolic blank characteristics of E Glass and the lightness of graphite. This technology gives anglers the ultimate performance to increase sensitivity while also keeping fish pinned when using treble hooked lures.

Keeping anglers in contact with what’s under the water, the 13 Fishing Defy Black Cranking Rods feature a custom Evolve Seamless Reel Seat and a High Density Japanese EVA Split Grip Handle to reduce weight and improve balance, while also creating an ergonomic grip and super responsive sensitivity. Finished with lightweight Evolve stainless steel guide frames that utilize high polished Alconite inserts to maximize casting distance and reduce friction, the 13 Fishing Defy Black Cranking Rods will help you catch and land more fish when crankbait fishing.

Best bang for your buckI almost exclusively use 13 fishing rods now. In my opinion you can't beat them. First of all I love that they have rods at every price point. I have the meta, muse, black out, a few defy and all of them are great in their own way. This crank bait rod I actually got to be able to throw my glide/swim baits since it can handle heavier lures. There was nothing else under a $100 that even comes close to this rod. My only complaint is the foam grips are hard and kind of ugly. However for the $70 I paid for it I think it's perfectly acceptable.

Theses Rods are just that good!Size your moving bait to one of the three rods and you'll love it! Super tip action plus the backbone for haul. Have 7.0 and 7.9, great rods. Hope they keep making 'em.

Love themI have a 7'9 one for deep cranking and small swim baits. Works fantastic. Love throwing 6th sense 300 DD on this thing. Have a 7'4 also that i use for a chatter bait rod and it is fantastic. Very sensitive. Great rods especially for the price.

7’ and 7’4”Both these rods have performed well. The 7’ feels more girthy towards the reels seat than the 7’4”. 7’ is used for topwater and spinnerbaits/bladed jigs. 7’4” used exclusively for square bills and rock crawlers. Both load up really well being moderate actions and have handled 3lb river largemouth and smallmouth surges expertly. The guides aren’t micro guides but they are small, so braid to leader is tricky but doable. I own 4 now and after a full season, (spring-late fall)none of them have broken or had guides pop. At $80, if one breaks, I’ll just get another one.

Complete garbageBought this rod. Went out on wedowee throwing a 13th fishing crabkbait and on the 3rd cast broke in half. Contacted the company an boy they make it very hard to get it replaced. I proved I bought it from tacklewarehouse I proved it broke by sending pictures. They make you break it into like 8 pieces an pay to send it to them. Joke of a company joke of a rod.

Comments: Light weight, soft tip, back bone good. Lean rod back boom got em. I've using lots of squarebills And lipless money for the price looks awesome too.

From: Unknown: Los Angeles, CA 9/25/23

Comments: Very glad I stumbled across this rod. I got the 7 ft for crankbaits since I don't throw anything too deep, it's light, got a decently soft tip with good backbone. I'm ordering another 7'4" for bladed jigs.

From: Simon: Tennessee 4/26/23

Comments: The 7'9" is a great cranking rod but I love it for bladed jigs. I have other more expensive rods that are made for blades jigs but I prefer this rod.

From: Unknown: 4/24/23

Comments: Absolutely satisfied with these rods. Have both the 7'4" and 7'9" rods. Well balanced and sensitive enough to feel the bite, but not take it away from them. Have been happy with all my 13 Fishing Defy Black rods, and will be purchasing more. Priced right for the quality.

From: Brent: Glen St. Mary, FL USA 4/23/23

Comments: You will not regret the purchase!!!!! I paired this with the Kastking Verus. The combo is very light and almost zero arm strain. The rod has the just right amount of given to not hinder or reduce the action of any bait. The fast tip and strong back bone allows you to still turn the big girls without any sacrifices. Could not be happier with this set up.

From: Don: Silver Lake WA 2/24/23

Comments: These are some amazing budget rods! Just as it says, they work for just about anything with treble hooks. They even work great for spinnerbaits and bladed jigs! And, they can even throw the occasional swimbait pretty damn well.

From: Henry: Nebraska 2/14/23

Comments: It truly does make a difference. Like most I've always used just a typical medium moderate rod for cranking. Yea it works but this works so much better. It feels much better, you can cast much better. The extended foam grip really helps with casting and comfort which is probably my favorite part of the rod. Because of this rod lipless cranks have become my favorite lure to throw. It is truly amazing.

From: NoFroFishing: FL 1/21/23

Comments: I purchased the 7'4" model on discount and I have to say it works great for Bladed Jigs & Lipless Cranks. For the price of this rod, you can't really go wrong, I've put about 6 months of fishing action on this rod and have not had any issues with it.

From: Spencer: Nebraska 12/19/22

Comments: I bought the 7'4" and have loved it. I've thrown R2S Biggies, Tactical DDs, 3XDs, 5XDs, and various squarebills. Also, it is perfect for the Chatterbait mini max and I liked the way it felt with jerkbaits as well. The additional length makes it cast lures further with less effort. I may try it for 3/8oz. Jackhammers. I really couldn't imagine the difference between an actual crankbait rod before this. It has a parabolic moderate action with plenty of backbone. Throws lighter baits and heavier baits with ease. I was really skeptical of the lure weight range at 1/4oz up to 1 1/2oz, but it throws the 3/4 oz Tactical DD and lighter baits with ease. The is rod surprisingly light for the cost. I do not regret buy this over the Omen 3 CBR at almost double the price.

From: Robert: Virginia Beach, VA 10/19/22

Comments: Bought this rod to throw med diving crankbaits on, so far I am very satisfied with the way the rod performs for the price this is a great rod, very light and handles a 200 bandit great imo.

From: Damon: French Lick, IN 9/2/22

Comments: Initially bought the 7'9  for large deep diving cranks to begin throwing baits like the 10XD. It has been a great rod and especially for the price. Has a good tip for casting and a parabolic action for keeping the fish pinned while still being heavy enough to handle those big baits. I tried fishing heavy Chatterbaits on it because of the great action and wanted something a little smaller so I bought the 7'4 for bladed jigs and I am really impressed for the same reasons mentioned for the 7'9.

From: Jason : Hidden Valley Lake 8/13/22

Comments: So glad I bought this rod. Reading through all the positive reviews, I decided to give it a try. Excellent price point for those on a budget. It's in no way cheap-quality. This rod will fling DD16s and 20s with no issue. Excellent, excellent, excellent rod!

From: Bryan: Texas 7/31/22

Comments: Great crankbait rod for the price ! I got the 7'6mh for medium sized glidebaits and swimbaits and couldn't be happier . I'll be grabbing a 7'4 for smaller cranks very soon

From: Patrick : Massachusetts 7/24/22

Comments: I feel like these rods are one of those dirty little secrets where everyone who has one loves it, but do t talk about it because it's so cheap they think they'll be criticized. Well I'm here to say that I own 3 and I love them. Why this isn't a "classic" already, I have no clue.

From: Ray: GA 7/10/22

Comments: I have two defy black rods! I really like the way they feel, they have the strength and the flexibility that works good!

From: Unknown: 7/6/22

Comments: Great composite rod for all treble hook baits, and for a great price. Caught several bass with it last week . With lipless cranks dt 6's and a jerk bait. Value exceeds price. Good product

From: Matt: Ohio 5/22/22

Comments: Got the 7'4 MH for exclusively throwing a trap. The composite action is perfect for it. The glass tip is soft enough to absorb big hits and keep them pinned, and the graphite base is strong enough to help rip it through grass and get a good hook set. First trip out with it I missed a 4+ that tried to eat it right at the boat, then landed a 2, 4, and 6+ in the next 30 minutes. Overall it performed great and definitely fishes above its price point. I'll be buying another 7'4 for a chatterbait rod, and the 7ft for smaller crankbaits.

From: Todd: Chattanooga, TN 5/10/22

Comments: I love this rod, I will be purchasing more of them, especially at the price. The action is spot on for a long cast to cover some water, and is great to perform that tight space accurate cast. This product is totally underrated and I am thankful, as I need to get a few more before the price goes up.

From: Gunny: Pueblo West, CO 4/7/22

Comments: Most of the reviews are spot on! This rod overperforms and is underpriced. If you're looking for a very good crankbait rod, look no further. It's strong yet sensitive, has great action, and really does the work of a much more expensive rod.

From: Dan: Corona, CA 2/27/22

Comments: This Rod is an extremely good Rod for the price point and the function that it is designed to be. It has really good pibolic action and it is very sinsitive as well. Great rod for the price.

From: Ricky: Russellville, AR 1/26/22

Comments: Love this rod!!! I'm a big crankbait fisherman and have quite a few cranking rods . This rod is light and has a comfortable handle and is the perfect action for crankbait fishing. The best part is the price, not many rods out there with these features at this price point.

From: Unknown: Texas 1/19/22

Comments: I find this crankbait rod to be the best I have ever fished with! It is not only light weight but very flexible by giving the fish more time to inhale the bait and allow me to get a better hook set. I have two of them any enjoy fishing with them.

From: Gerald: Hickory, NC 12/29/21

Comments: Rod works good for cranking. It's a little stiff on the action but I can launch my crank baits with this rod.

From: Fletcher : Dickson, TN 11/29/21

Comments: I really love this rod and very glad I bought 2 so sensitive and super light! Use to use Abu Garcia Winch rods also like but broke one and tried the Defy Black Crankbait rod great value and will be wanting a flippin stick soon and will be looking to 13 fishing for my purchase Thanks for a great product!

From: Monroe: Shoals, AL 10/28/21

p>Comments: Rod works great for me. You don't need a high end rod for cranking and reaction style baits. This rod works well for cranking and is a little on the stiff side for a moderate action. But it is very light and comfortable to throw for long hours. Would recommend it for sure.

From: Unknown: 9/27/21

Comments: Great rod for the price feels like a more expensive rod and the moderate action through the whole rod is amazing.. 5 out 5

From: Unknown: 8/31/21

Comments: I bought three of these rods back in January, and have been fishing them ever since, with both jerkbaits and shallow cranks. They cast really well, but I hadn't caught a good fish on one to see how it performed "under load". Well, that ended yesterday. I was fishing a home painted black/red/orange 2.5 crankbait on a shallow grass flat, next to deep water, when I got slammed. The fish began to dive into the grass, so I had to horse it out to deeper water quickly. Even though I felt one of the trebles pull free, the other held, and, after digging deep several times, and jumping twice, I was able to lead the fish to my net. 8 lbs of post spawn beauty! The rod turned the fish just fine, and the parabolic bend kept it pinned even when it jumped. I fish the California Delta, so I had worried that the rods might be too light for hand to hand combat, but no more!

From: Mark: Antioch, CA 8/21/21

Comments: I love the it handles and feels. I caught a two pound spot the first time I used it in about 18 feet of water on a DT10 crank bait. It has that extra give to allow the fish to inhale the bait and get hooked up. The price was in my range also. Thanks for a Quality purchase, it's a keeper.

From: Gerald: Hickory, NC 8/21/21

Comments: Very nice rod for shallow crankning. Very glad I made this choice for a cranking rod.

From: Vincent: Albert Lea, MN 8/19/21

Comments: This fishing rod gives me a lot of thrills and more sensitivity, very good quality, thank you!

From: Simon: Quebec, Canada 8/13/21

Comments: I was kinda wondering what type of performance I was going to get with a 70 rod. But I am very impressed with this rod. I bought two of them one for deep cranking and one for shallow. In NY our bass spawn is kinda weird this year. But I've used both the rods matched with revo reels. I only have caught 2 over 4lbs on them bunch of smaller bass. Rod is excellent and If I neede more rods it's going to be more 13 fishing.

From: Will: New York 6/14/21

Comments: I'm really happy with this rod, I have been using it mainly as my bladed jig rod and also medium depth cranks. I get great feedback from both lure types, the tip is very forgiving without being a noodle like a full glass rod and it's light enough to cast all day. Great rod at this price point

From: Mark: Upstate, NY 5/18/21

Comments: I'm grad that I chose this rod. It's a very light weight and grips are comfortable. The price is reasonable that everyone can buy it.

From: Jim: Nebraska 3/27/21

Comments: Very suprised at the quality of this rod for the money. Bought the 7'4" medium heavy moderate action for my lipless and squarebill rod and I couldn't be more happy.

From: J Dubs 3/11/21

Comments: I bought one to replace an old crank rod that I broke on the boat due to human error! I don't fish deep cranks often so I don't believe in spending a lot of money on equipment that I don't use a lot. I will spend more on the setups that I use more frequently. With that said, I have a 5:3.1 Kastking Royale Legend reel I got for $60 spooled with 10# Yo-zuri top knot fluorocarbon. The first day I took this setup out, we fished a deep weedy pond for the first time and the fish were suspended over the weeds just under 20ft. I was able to work the crank down into the grass and allow it to hang up a bit and pop it free. I got bit at least 4-5 times this way and was able to land 3 bass around 2lbs. My next outing with the rod wouldn't come until almost a month later fishing bridges in the the city. I managed to pull in a few significantly larger bass. The rod has exceeded my expectations and handles the fish well. No trouble at all detecting bites. If you need a crank rod for occasional use, this wont let you down.

From: Ed: Boston 12/15/20

Comments:  I've had the Gen1 version with the cork handles for about two years now and can say that it has been used a lot and held up very well.  Great for the price tag, lightweight compared to full glass and my go to rod for 1/4 to 3/4 cranks.  Pared with a Lews Tournament MP in 8.3x1 and 20lb braid I can bomb out over half a spool with a lipless and cover some territory.
