Outstanding reelI have a lot of reels mostly Lewe’s. I have a few other brands but this reel has become one of my favorite. It is built very well and performs the same. I absolutely love it and my next will probably be a 13 fishing. I really like it and I will definitely buy another!!

ExcellentI am blessed to have 4 of these newer models and two of the older concept a's..they are in rotation next to chronarch 151's and tatula sv's...I pick the A2's up over the others all the time can't tell the difference..I fish daily inshore in Fl also have the older concept a's still in rotation still smooth as silk. Excellent reels zero complaints saltwater doesn't bother em..can't say that about the other two..tacklewarehouse #1 thank you god bless.

Awesome Reel! This was my first 13 Fishing reel and I am not disappointed, it casts great, is very smooth and it just feels bulletproof. Being a 200 size it is not one of those light as a feather little finesse reels but it is not heavy either, it fits good in your hand, has plenty of line capacity and is a great do all reel.

Great confortThe reel really sits comfortably in your hand. The higher gear ratio reels still able to horse in the donkeys. Caught a 5.4 lb spot on it and never once had to worry about drag slipping. Quality parts and the handle grips are very comfortable.

Previous Feedback

Comments: This reel cast nice and hold perfect amount of line.. so smooth as well. Only thing I wish they would change is the pointed back where your palm rests after about 30min of fishing you really start to notice and want to move your hand

From: Sonny : Wareham ma 10/2/23

Comments: The design of this reel is awful for people with big hands, I have dozens of other bait casters and this one is the most annoying to grip, always feels uncomfortable, just my personal take but I never find it nice to hold.

From: Ravi: 6/23/23

Comments: Just got this reel in and paired up with a rod first time fishing it for more than an hour my bards are aching the right side of the left hand retrieve reel has the sharpest corner on it for no reason except aesthetics. Makes it extremely uncomfortable for jig fishing and fully griping the reel. Not to mention the star drag is super loose and very inconsistent. WILL BE STICKING WITH SHIMANO AND DAIWA.

From: Unknown: 6/2/23

Comments: I've had this reel for about a year now. I have nothing negative to say about it. It's the smoothest piece of fishing equipment I've ever used. The cork handles are extremely comfortable and the cork on the thumb bar is another added feature. It's solid while also being light weight. Truly an amazing reel.

From: NoFroFishing: FL 2/12/23

Comments: Haven't had a chance to get it out yet. Paired it with a St Croix Triumph inshore casting rod in medium light. The balance is great. The weight of the combo is excellent. It's seems solid and smooth and can't wait to get out there and give it a go.

From: John: PA 2/3/23

Comments: Awesome reel. I have two now and love them both. They look and feel well built Mine have handled relatively big baits but work well with a lot of smaller ones too. I keep both on heavy rods now but used to keep one on a jig and worm rod. They've performed great on every rod I've tried them on.

From: J: 2/3/23

Comments: Bought this reel after my concept z finally gave out. Love this reel very smooth and easy to adjust to my throwing style. The handles feel good even in the rain; no slippage. Would highly recommend this reel to others.

From: Chuck: Sugar Hill, Georgia 1/27/23

Comments: I absolutely love this reel. To be fair I only have a cheap Abu reel, a Shimano Curado MGL 150, and this one. Of all three, this is EASILY my favorite. Silky, and I mean silky smooth. Casts like a dream. Looks amazing too.

From: Dustin: TX 1/20/23

Comments: Just a good solid reel, no brakes to play with. Simple reel, smooth drag and sweet casting! I bought this as a Christmas present for my brother. I had one previously and loved it.

From: Fishingmickey: TX 1/16/23

Comments: The A2 is a caster for sure. The brake system is a little different when making adjustments but easy enough. I had to adjust how much backing I put on the reel because I was casting past the knot. My only complaint is at the back of the reel it comes to a point. The point is just enough of an irritant on my palm that I'm hesitant to purchase another one.

From: Mike: NJ 1/14/23

Comments: Amazing reel, feels solid but not heavy. Super smooth and heavy drag. Once set up it casts great, caught a couple of 4lb bass the first week I used it with no issue muscling them in. If you're between this and the C2 I would say the A2 is less expensive, feels better in the hand and would take more abuse, the C2 casts further and is lighter. Both are phenomenal reels!!

From: Will: Richmond, VA 1/13/23

Comments: 9/10 for this Reel. Many reels are double the money and have No Strong Drag. This reel is perfect. Simple. Not overly complicated with Break dials. You put it on the rod and fish with it. Simple. Smooth casts as good as any reel. No issues. I have had many issues with mine. Daiwa and my Shimano. My Concept A2 is my MAIN setup. Get yourself one!!!

From: COREY: United States 12/30/22

Comments: The Concept A2 is by far the best reel I've ever owned and used. The cast ability, smoothness, distance and drag system are amazing. This is one reel you need to have on your rods for sure!

From: Michael M: Waco, Tx 12/29/22

Comments: True workhouse reel. I've read a few reviews about deteriorating performance. I did notice this with my after a season of use as my primary setup. A quick clean and lube, worked better than out of the box! I now own two and even though I'm a gear junkie and enjoy buying varying brands, it's hard to not pick up another one of these. Fits great in the palm, holds plenty of line, drag is sound. Love this reel.

From: Zach: DE 11/1/22

Comments: Fantastic reel and a solid performer for sure. Drag is strong and smooth along with effortless casting ability as well. I have numerous A2's dating back to the original model and all are still performing flawlessly. Definitely will buy more in the future as long as quality control is maintained.

From: RN: Livermore, Ca 10/28/22

Comments: Love this reel and the price..def a work horse. I changed the handles to carbon fiber with black Eva knobs. (Not a fan of the cork grips on the stock handle) I have 2 of them now and put them to work and i have no complaints.

From: Kevin: Ky 10/13/22

Comments: To preface, this is a neutral review. I love this reel. Drag system is strong and reliable, very easy to adjust. I was able to pull a 30 lb snapping turtle off the bottom of a pond and to shore with this thing. Casts a mile, I am able to cast farther with this than I can with my Curado DC or my cousin's Daiwa Fuego. I love the finish on it, looks and feels great, as do the cork reel knobs. The little cork bit on the button adds to the overall feel of it as well. Very low profile, it's about the size of a Daiwa 80, but almost an inch slimmer. Comes stock with a deep spool, fits about 150 yards of any line with the diameter of 2 - 4 lb mono. Very easy to disassemble and doesn't have a lot of crazy moving parts, the drag system is connected to the spool directly, and the spool can be popped out through the beetlewing for maintenance. On that note however, I will say it is very easy to bump the button that opens the beetlewing while casting; to 13 fishing, I would suggest facing this the other direction in future reels, it's sort of similar to the issue Smith and Wesson had on their top break revolvers. If and when this happens, the spool stays spinning, and flies out of the reel, causing a sort of external birdsnest. It's easy to catch and stop so it doesn't completely fly out once you start to notice it, and is pretty easy to fix, but it catches you off guard the first few times if you aren't expecting it at all. The last day I had mine, I noticed the button seemed to have come loose a bit, but I figured it would be an easy fix. Then the drag gave out, now it won't reel under tension. Take this information as you will; it's a very good reel, when it works.

From: Unknown: 8/23/22

Comments: If this reel were any worse, it would be in office. The drag has always decided to quit at odd times and the handle has been loose ever since a hook set on a fired up fish. On top of that, this thing has figured out how to dissemble itself, the handle will fall off during a hook set. There are plenty of reels for less money that are reliable; however, I loved this thing when it was working. 13's customer service has been easy to work with to get replacement parts.

From: Steve: Kansas City 7/12/22

Comments: My first time purchasing a high end reel (for me) was the first gen Concept A & I was in love. No other reel felt as nice & now that I have the A2 it's even better. Great reel

From: Max: Fresno CA 10/19/21

Comments: Awesome reel if you enjoy slowly but surely, enjoy losing performance. I have 3 a2 and 2 c2. So far 3 antireverse bearings have failed and one a2 is grinding under load. My 3 year old tatula ct will out cast the c2 and also is more consistent with different lure weights. You can buy an SLX or a Fuego for way cheaper and they outlast these paper weights. Stick with Shimano and Daiwa, you'll be happier

From: Steve: Ontario, Canada 9/2/21

Comments: Bought one to pair with a St. Croix Victory 7'2" med heavy moderate.  Put straight 15# sunline sniper fluoro on it and this thing is truly awesome.  I'm typically a mid-high end lew's guy and so far this reel has performed as well as I could have hoped for.  I use it for small/shallow cranks and swim jigs.

From: Chad: Wisconsin 7/12/21

Comments: The Concept A2 is an absolute workhorse of a reel. I currently have two on in the 7:5:1 and the 8:3:1 gear ratio. I use the 7:5:1 for everything from deep diving cranks, to texas rigs, jigs, and bladed jigs. I use my 8:3:1 for my frogs and my realistic swimbaits that are in the 4 - 5.5 inch range. This reel performs amazing when fighting all bass but especially the trophy size bass with the 25 pound drag these fish don't stand a chance.

From: Keith: Unknown 7/6/21

Comments: A versatile reel, super smooth and has great stopping power. Mainly use the A2 for saltwater bass fishing in the bays but also use it for Largemouth at the local lakes. Perfect for swimbaits!

From: Eddy: San Diego, CA 6/11/21

Comments: This reel feels like a high quality reel. But there's something about it that just makes it feel cumbersome. it's small and compact but so is the handle. I purchased this in a 8:1 it definitely had plenty of speed. The main selling point is the drag, also the reason I purchased and 100% the reason I sent it back. Completely failed lost a solid fish because of it.

From: Jonathan: Pennsylvania 5/14/21

Comments: I think the A2 is the most versatile series in 13's higher end offerings! I prefer this over the Concept C2 when it comes to heavier duty applications in bass fishing, a little heavier but its a work horse! Cranking is smooth and effortless, cast-ability is great but not as far as the Concept Zero bearings reels. Drag is the strongest I've encountered in a low-profile bass baitcaster. The handle is long enough for American anglers with large hands! I prefer the C2 for lighter baits a finesse fishing. Have over 12 of these reels and they have been flawless right out of the box! Compared to other casters from other top manufacturers, I think its one of the top choices in reels under $200.

From: Bobby: Hammond 4/16/21

Comments: This reel is fire! It is the perfect reel for my deep diving crank baits! I mainly throw Abu Garcia's so it is a little bit to get used to but is a fire reel.

From: John: Lubbock, TX 4/16/21

Comments: The Concept A2 is an absolute workhorse of a reel. I currently have two on in the 7:5:1 and the 8:3:1 gear ratio. I use the 7:5:1 for everything from deep diving cranks, to texas rigs, jigs, and bladed jigs. I use my 8:3:1 for my frogs and my realistic swimbaits that are in the 4 - 5.5 inch range. This reel performs amazing when fighting all bass but especially the trophy size bass with the 25 pound drag these fish don't stand a chance.

From: Unknown: 4/14/21

Comments: Love my concept A now, but like others I had issues at first which happy to say was user error. Typically I adjust the fighting drag relative to the line that I'm using and accounting for not strength, then I set the casting drag forward so that my lure doesn't fall. From there I slowly back that off till the lure starts moving toward the ground, and then with a bit of an educated thumb, good to go! Except not so good, I would get incredibly long cast and then at other times it would backlash in the first few feet of the cast. Any extra push would leave me a nest, but it wasn't windy and my Revo inshore and BPs were performing fine. Finally, after a month of being deeply hurt and feeling like I was out 180 bucks, I opened up the reel and saw that the centrifugal drag was set at 0. I held the spool so it wouldn't move and dialed the break to 3. Perfect cast now every time. I guess the factory setting is 0, but it is my favorite caster now.

From: Calvin: Orlando 3/29/21

Comments: This reel is terrible.  I have been using 13 for a while now and I used to swear by them but the new reels after about 10 casts start squealing and after that they never cast the same twice.  They got rid of the hole and vents in the spool as well which I don't like either.  After several years and lots of tournaments I will no longer be purchasing 13 reels.  There Quality really went down hill!

From: Justin: Willis 3/25/21

Comments: Great Reel! Smooth, well built. Super fast.

From: Unknown: 2/26/21

Comments: Extremely smooth reel. with this reel even a much lighter bait you can cast a mile with i've always been a big abu garcia fan but after trying this reel im definitely going to try 13 fishing more!

From: Dustin: California 2/19/21

Comments: It's a beautiful reel. But the black finish is already starting to chip off after about 5 uses. Pretty disappointing

From: Brock: Lewisvile 1/21/21

Comments: Very impressed so far. Casting and retrieving is effortless and the drag is incredibly smooth. If this reel lives up to the abuse my Gen 1 has taken I'll be purchasing a few more.

From: Rick N: Livermore, CA 12/16/20

Comments: Vastly improved! My only true is issue with concept Gen 1 was the anti-reverse rollover bearing. They were quite sloppy and would eventually slip on hook sets or when ripping lures out of grass. The new A & C reels have a tight anti-reverse. You can feel the difference immediately. This Generation is a winner in all aspects: Looks great, smooth as can be, casting distance is awesome, and the grips are perfect for me. Looking forward to seeing what will change with Rapala owning 49% of the company.

From: Steve: Ontario, Canada 12/6/20

Comments: I have had no issues with this reel. Casts smooth retrieves smooth. Mainly a cranking reel for me and it does well in that application. A sleeker version of my Revo winch for about $20 less. Still like my Revos, but this low profile reel is a great reel for the money.

From: Matthew: Orofino, ID 11/12/20

Comments: I have several Concept As so I purchased one of these and have used it 10-12 times. This reel performs flawlessly, smooth as butter. Excellent casting distance, definitely liking the bigger spool for braid. Not a fan of the cork knobs so I switched them out for the Eva grip knobs!

From: BSFishing: Minnesota 11/10/20

Comments: Its a pretty good reel does not cast light lures very well but if you tie up a lipless crank this reel will cast it super far its pretty much what i use this reel for i have the curado k and dc but this reel cast a lot further than those reels but they handle lighter lures better and the gearing is also better on those reels.overall its a good reel i just dont think its worth $180.

From: Raul: San Jose, CA 11/4/20

Comments:So far so good, went bass fishing and ending catching a 40 lbs plus flat head with not a problem at all.Paired with Gen 2 defy black 7'5" H rod on a 5.8" keitech 1/2 trokar swimbait jig head.
