Tip for this reelSo I got this reel and out of the box it was a little geary. I decided to open it up and there was a noticeable lack of grease on the main gear. Idk why this was the case because all my other 13 reels were fine. I greesed the gears, put some oil on the CZB bushings and voila, it was smooth as a babies bottom. If you're comfortable opening up and servicing your own reels I'd highly recommend doing this right out of the box. Overall, very impressed with this reel. I've owned the Chronarch Ci4+, and the Chronarch MGL and this reel feels far more solid than both of those reels from Shimano. I can't speak to the reels castability but there are other reviews that go over that on YouTube or here. I just wanted to put this out there to address the reviews talking about the "geary noise".

Comments: I don't always have a lot of time so when I need gear that will help optimize my time, these reels do the job. It casts long enough to cover water, smooth enough to pitch around, versatile enough to use multiple baits, and almost refuses to BL so I'm not wasting time cleaning up nests. When I do get a day on the water, you can feel this reel get "primed" and I can keep it in hand all day. If you're not quite a hardcore angler, but fish more than a once every couple months, this will definitely not be a regret. You can't be mad about that.

Comments: I saw alot of professional fisherman in videos using this reel and thought there must be something to this. I bought one and I know now why they had one. One of the smoothest longest casting reels I've ever had.

Comments: I've been fishing with 13 Fishing reels for a few years now. I have almost every model from the Origin to Concepts series and I will say that the Z Slide is my favorite now. From the lightweight frame to the smooth casting and the Z Slide adjustments, this reel is a must have.

Comments: I'm a big tackle junkie and collector and when I saw this reel on sale at Tackle Warehouse I had to jump on the opportunity. I was a little skeptical about the retail price being that it's at the same price point as high performance Japanese reels but I've been blown away by the performance. Casts a mile with ease and it's so east to use. Casting is a little loud, to say the least, but that just adds to the fun. I pair it with a Dobyn's champion xp and I use it for medium sized swimbaits, finesse jigs and small chatterbaits. Handles small and handles lures perfectly. I own high end reels but this is quickly becoming one of my favorites. So much fun to use

Comments: Okay at best. Love 13 fishing reels but in terms of performance  this is not the reel it should be for the price.

From: Unknown: 4/28/22

Comments: 13 fishing is using the popularity of the original to dupe people. They cut the cost on it by making it from plastic and giving it a cool name to make it a feature. I returned mine after 2 days of use. It has a lot of flex. Which is unacceptable for a reel at this cost.  It performed ok. But definitely underperformed for the price. Lew,s Diawa and Shimano would all be much better choice for the price. If you want a salt reel go get a reel from Shimano or Diawa. If you want a bass reel Lew's. These were so disappointing. They should just bring back the original. For the money there is much better products that will stand up with no flex. Outperform and last longer.

Comments: A downgrade from the previous model. While I think 13 Fishing absolutely aren't among the worst reel brands out there, the new generation Concept reels, with some exceptions, made me disappointed. This Concept Z Slide is probably the most disappointing reel for me. The previous model, the bright red Concept Z was not a bad reel. Sure, maybe it wasn't worth the $200 price tag, but I found it fairly well built and it had "workhorse" potential. It sold for $100 before being discontinued, which was a great price. This new reel though, is not something I would buy and especially not for this price. Why? It has a plastic frame. They switched out the aluminum frame to a plastic one. I don't care what 13 Fishing calls it "Cast Iron Carbon" is still plastic. Plastic is almost always a worse material than aluminum for a frame of a baitcasting reel. This reels frame definitely bends easier than the previous model's frame. You feel that frame flexing when you fish and especially when reeling in fish. The internals of this reel are fine though, so that's something. Another thing I really don't get is the Slide brake. Am I meant to use that in wind? Why would I not use my thumb instead? It's just a secondary brake. Not saying it's bad, but I think most people will end up using the thumb to apply braking during the cast, rather than use the slide brake. The slide brake's main function in my eyes is to act as another brake, which can be good for some people. Overall, I'm fairly disappointed. The fact that 13 Fishing tries to make a plastic frame something cool by adding it as a feature is something that I'm not a big fan of. One other thing, the 22 lbs of drag would break this reel. DON'T pull line at 22 lbs of drag. The pinion and yoke is too small to handle that amount of pressure. It would break those two parts. Fish this reel at lower drag settings. If a fish pulls with 22 lbs of drag you will likely lose the grip of your rod anyways. 10 lbs is enough drag for most bass fishing applications. I wouldn't use this reel for fishing thick cover.

Comments: I live in south Louisiana and fish mostly bass but do head to the coastal estuaries and fish big red fish and speckled trout. I bought about 4 of these reels and paired them with 7' MH Duckett rods (purple) and they have been great! I can throw them in my bass boat tournament fishing, then transfer them to my bay boat and go one on one with reds all day. Having 20 lbs of drag lets me hook into a big bull red and put the smack down on him and not hurt my gear! Not having to worry about the bearing system corroding is the icing  on the cake! Let's face it good quality fishing gear is expensive and having something that can handle bigger fish possibly in saltwater condition's that can also be dialed back to fish Bass is AWESOME!!!! Thanks 13 fishing for filling a need in my fishing arsenal!

Comments: Being a big fan of the original Concept Z I bought one of these last spring and I am blown away at the performance this reel has. Unbelievable casting distance and the slide button is a great addition. Used it all season with no complaints. I will be ordering a couple more for next season.

From: Ben: Unknown 9/4/21

Comments: Used it twice, now its making grinding noises inside. Will not buy 13 fishing again....back to Shimano.

Comments: Picked up this as my first Dobyn's rod, and after reading the reviews and a little time on the water I will saw that I'm happy with the decision. I waffled between the medium light and the medium and opted for the medium. I was worried that the rod might be overpowered for what I was intending it for, and while it is more stout than most mediums, I found it to be almost a medium and a half. It feels pretty solid and definitely feels in hand like a medium heavy but in my opinion fishes a little softer than a medium heavy. Very sensitive, light and well balanced. I was throwing tail weighted (1/16 oz) soft plastics and it was flingin em pretty good and I was getting a good feel for what the bait was doing. I am happy with my purchase.

Comments: Ordered 6 of these bad boys after being challenged to a distancing cast competition. Everyone brought the top tier baitcast reels from every high end manufacturer and every single reel that took the test was out casted by the 13 Z slide. All reels have been flawless right out of the box. Great quality management by 13. I find the slide button fantastic from switching casting in wind. As you fish with this reel, it only seems to cast further with more usage. I wish they made more gear ratios in left hand, to some people with chubby thumbs the slide button may be uncomfortable. I love the slide when it comes to long distance casting, you will be amazed! I also love the Zero bearings innovation, supposedly this reel with fish true and the bearings wont go bad because there arn't any! Highly innovative product and it may look a bit funny but this reel is a long distance casting machine!

Comments: I am the owner of the original Concept Z and believed this to be a great reel. I was able to get my hands on the Concept Z Slide and was astonished on how many improvements and extras went into this reel. I thought the slide button was a cool feature but I doubted that I would ever have a use for it. I was dead wrong, I find myself mid cast sliding it to control the cast more or to let it rip and sail it into the next zip code.I have used this reel in both saltwater and freshwater applications. I have to say that I was a bit apprehensive about how it would perform fighting some of the inshore species near me, however the Z SLD completely blew me away with it's performance. The 20 pound drag with the drag alert is amazing. The unique sound of the drag ripping stands out and tells you exactly what the fish is doing and how it is fighting. The looks of this reel are out of this world, metallic grey paired with the orange knobs and the slide button round this reel out to make it perfect in every way.

Comments: Ice finally melted here so got to use my two new Z's on 4 trips this past week. Shocked by the negative reviews... Thing is rock solid, the finish is a super color cool (matter of opinion of course) and it feels great in the hand. The 'slide' tension bar is exactly as described, awesome for fine-tune adjustments and far easier than turning a dial - can do it right in flow of casting. Still figuring out how I'll really leverage this - but one of the main things is casting into the wind vs. not - found this to be a huge advantage as the boat turns, you cast a different direction, whatever - can quickly adjust and void a nest. I'm a fan.

Comments: This reel was my first purchase of anything from 13 fishing. I have only used it about 5 or 6 times. First impressions are that it is a great reel. Smooth, comfortable to use and the quick slide adjustment on top is genius. One of the other reviews mentioned that they had a grinding in their reel. I to briefly experienced this bit with a little investigation resolved the issue. I had opened the side of the reel when I received the reel and apparently didn't close it correctly. Upon reopening the side of the reel and closing it ( making sure the lock lever was fully pushed back up into lock position the problem went away. Hasn't happened since. Great reel in my opinion.

Comments: For the record, I own the Concept C Reel, TXZ Reel and the A3 reel. So I obviously LOVE 13 fishing. I think they are the smoothest reels on the market. With that said, this reel unfortunately looks to be not ready for the general market. I saw one review of it on Youtube where the buyer complained about a grinding noise and against my better judgment I still went ahead and purchased it. Well, he was sadly right. This real has major problems. When the spool tension knob is all the way tight, the reel makes a terrible clunking sound, as well as it doesn't reel in smooth. Feels like your reeling in a square if that makes sense. When the spool tension knob is all the way loose, it's quite a bit better, but obviously you can't have a reel when you cant adjust the tension knob. I REALLY wanted to like this reel but sadly it's just not meant to be. I think I will wait until they get all the kinks out. But don't let this deter you from owning 13 fishing products. Their other reels are AMAZING and I wouldn't fish with anything else

From: John: Houston, TX 8/16/20

Comments: I wanted to try something by 13 fishing, very nice reel, the slide control by the spool is very convenient, took a few seconds to get everything dialed and once I did it cast great, I had no backlashes, and it's a very comfortable reel in your hands. I do have to say the price is a little high, my next comparable reel price wise would be my curado DC, and having fished with both now I do have to say that although this is a very nice reel it shouldn't cost more then a curado dc. I also have a Daiwa Tatula SV TW and it was $199, again this reel is great but I don't think it should be more expensive then my Tatula. If they were on sale for around $199 I would definitely recommend it $275 is a little steep when looking at whats on the market from other brands.
