Overview

Just when you thought the Tatula reel family couldn’t get any better, the Daiwa Tatula 300 Casting Reel delivers top shelf performance that now gives anglers plenty of power to throw oversized baits for catching trophy-caliber bass. Built around a large 300-size spool, the Daiwa Tatula 300 Casting Reel holds a generous amount of line, which is what anglers need for making long casts with deep-diving crankbaits, large swimbaits, umbrella rigs, and other heavy baits that require heavier line and long casts. Internally it features bigger gears enclosed in an aluminum frame that allows for precise alignment, which equals more power and torque.

To increase casting performance, the Daiwa Tatula 300 Casting Reel is equipped with Daiwa’s T-Wing system that decreases line resistance and the patented Magforce Z magnetic casting system on the exterior to fine tune the reel depending on wind conditions, rod power, and the overall aerodynamics of your bait to maximize casting distance and accuracy. Offered in multiple gear ratios, the Daiwa Tatula 300 Casting Reel is the perfect option for anglers fishing large presentations for even larger fish.

-T-Wing System
-110mm Heavy Cranking Power Handle
-Aluminum Frame
-43mm Aluminum Deep Spool

So far, so goodI bought this for float fishing for steelhead and I did not want to go the center pin route. This was my first experience with a baitcaster and after a few days, I got the hang of it, and it works great. I'm glad that tackle warehouse had the left-hand retrieve model in stock. I can't imagine reeling with my right hand. That hand is for fighting fish. I paired it up with a 13' nova spiral wrapped rod. setup works great.

Oustanding!I've got multiple shimano, diawa, lews. Diawa just has that thing. T-wing is great. Very light. Great breaks. Silent and the smoothest out of them all. Diawa has it for casting and spinning reels for me. But I still like my curados

Only lasted a year and a half with light use.Purchased this reel for swimbaits and after a little over a year the reel stopped engaging after casting. Took it apart since warranty was up to discover the hole that the spring sets in had wobble out and will not hold the spring any longer and will not engage.

BeastOnly had this reel for a couple weeks and have only got to throw it around 100 casts cuz it’s winter and there’s some ice on the lakes here, bought it for glide baits and big swims and it casts a mile and is very smooth, so far very satisfied with purchase

Comments: Purchased this reel for my big swim baits. Worth every penny!!! This is the smoothest operating reel I have ever got in my hands. Highly recommend and will be adding a couple more to the line up!!

From: Chad: Texas 8/7/23

Comments: This reel is amazing for big Swim baits ect. Well built and reliable with easy control access meaning the drag, magnet, and spool settings. Cast like you wouldn't believe when them 3 things are set to your cast perfectly....

From: Thomas : Norristown Pa, 7/27/23

Comments: I have seen the light. I've always been a die hard Shimano guy, both for rods and reels, but this reel has made me reconsider that. I own a Shimano Tranx 300AHG and use that for my big baits, but not anymore. The Tranx has always been missing something in my opinion, but I could never figure out what it was until my 300HS came in and I tried it out. The Tatula 300 is lighter, WAY smoother, WAY quieter, I felt as if it was more powerful (could be because of the longer handle, the bigger knobs, the slightly slower gear ratio [7.1:1 for the 300HS and 7.6:1 for the 300AHG], who knows), and best of all, I was able to outcast my Tranx with MINIMAL effort after dialing it in properly. As someone who has undergone shoulder and Labrum reconstructive surgery, the fact that I was able to outcast my Tranx with ease is a blessing in countless ways. The TWS, bearings, and braking system that Daiwa uses on these reels might even be better than the VBS, SVS and NDLW (non-disengaging level wind) that Shimano used on the Calcutta TE, Calcutta Conquest A and the new Calcutta Conquest MD! I'm still going to pick up a CCMD and try it for myself, but I don't think I'll ever be as enlightened as I was today comparing my Tranx to my new Tatula. Kudos to you, Daiwa.

From: Steven: Indiana 6/29/23

Comments: It lasted about a year broke the gears or something on a birds nest throwing top water

From: Ken: Sacramento 5/24/23

Comments: I use 25lb fluoro 6.3:1 absolutely fantastic reel. I honestly can't believe how far it casts. Heavy duty reel extremely smooth. Really happy I bought one definitely worth it.

From: Josh: Wv 4/28/23

Comments: I will say this I love daiwa reels it's the only ones I will use 99% of the time I love them and will always pick daiwa over anything I have had this reel for a few mouths and love it haven't got to use it much but before I bought this one I had a kastking 300 and I loved it but I wanted something nicer and I bought this and now the kastking just sits on the shelf I hate having reels sitting but I can't help it then reel dose everything I wanted it to do and more.

From: Steven Z: AL 2/26/23

Comments: Use it for throwing my big swim baits and love it. Super smooth casting and retrieve. RECOMMEND.

From: Unknown: 12/20/22

Comments: Bought for musky fishing because everywhere else had it sold out. Throws 2oz to 10oz lures amazingly and it only took me about 10 casts to get it dialed in. Have caught 15lb+ fish on it no problem. It's paired with a 8'6 heavy fast croix premier. Awesome reel, but would definitely not recommend for anything less than 2 oz.

From: Eric: MN 7/24/22

Comments: Love these reels for big swimbaits! Plenty of power and gear ratio options. Currently have six of them and havent had any issues!

From: Byron: Columbia, TN 6/16/22

Comments: This is my first Daiwa reel , the tatula 300 has been a great reel to me , this far . Casts great , smooth Retrieve and easy controls. Would definitely buy again !!!!!

From: Dale: Reisterstown, MD 5/7/22

Comments: This is the worst reel I've ever had to try adjust to cast the lures it always backlashes no matter what adjustments I make.

From: Thomas: Charleston, SC 3/7/22

Comments: Bought 2, had one that had issues engaging the spool after the cast. Tackle warehouse swapped it out, no issues. The other one has been flawless and works great for a rigs and swimbaits. Cast a mile and super smooth

From: Justin: Farmersville, TX 12/17/21

Comments: I just got myself a new Daiwa Tatula 300 in the 7.1:1 gear ratio, for my 2nd big swimbait setup, I had read the reviews here, did a little research, and pulled the trigger on it finally. I'm glad I did! This reel is awsome to say the least. Move over SHIMANO we got a new big bait REEL in town!!! I put the reel on my Gloomis 966 rod to use as my Gidebait/Hardbait/Umbrella Rig setup, which previously had a Tranx 300 on it, I also ordered a Dobyn's 807 Mag Hvy rod at the same time I purchased the Tatula 300 and I just moved the Tranx 300 to that rod for my Softbait swimbait rod since it was a low 5.8 gear ratio. The Tatula has many pro's that make it a better reel than the Tranx, and right out the gate the Tatula has an outside adjustable breaking system, which in this day and age would seem like no big deal, but the Tranx doesn't have one which is just sad, even the new Curado 300 didn't get one.. anyway the Tatula has an upgraded T-Wing that has a larger opening that allows braid to leader knots to pass through, the T-Wing system doesn't usually live up to the hype in the small reels to me, but where it shines, is when using the larger diameter fluro's, mono's, and braids that will be used for large swimbaiting. The Tatula is also smoother than the Tranx, and not only fresh out of the box, but also after using them both for an extended amount of time. The Tatula has a longer handle with larger and more comfortable knobs, and the Tatula's body is made of all metal and you can really feel the difference of the two reels in your hands.  Tatula also has a higher drag rating than the Tranx, with a less touchy drag star. What I mean by this is the Tranx has a drag that with only a small turn of the drag star you can go from hardly any drag to almost full lockdown power. (This can be a con or a positive depending on what you like) I however dont like it, I prefer the normal way most drag stars apply force. For a size comparison between them, the Tranx looks smaller, as both reel's are similar in height off the reel seat, but the Tatula is smaller in width near the thumb bar, with a slightly longer overall length than the Tranx. So if your looking at which reel to get for a new big bait setup I'd highly recommend the Tatula 300, it just outperforms the Tranx in everyway.

From: Ryan: Texas 12/16/21

Comments: I much prefer the Tatula 300 over the Tranx 300 as I've got several of both. Smoother, even over time, wider handle and easier to dial in. Haven't had any issues at all. Also like the gear ratio options and lack of "bait casting off" power handle.

From: Byron: Columbia, TN 10/21/21

Comments: This reel casts and retrieves like a big 300 baitcaster, but it feels very manageable in my hands. I have it paired up with a 7'11 Tatula swimbait rod, throwing big S-Wavers, and swimbaits it really seems like the perfect combo for what I'm doing with it and I'm really happy with it.

From:  Doyle: Unknown 10/12/21

Comments: Needing a bigger low profile reel for my larger swim and glide baits, I looked at most everything available in a 300 size. Years ago I owned a Curado 301 E7, and loved it, so I wanted something as close or better than that reel. I wound up buying my Tatula 300 from TW, on a recommendation from a friend. After fishing with it a few times, I'm very happy with the reel. I own several Diawa reels, and the 300 didn't disappoint. I did flush a oil the spool bearings and polished the spool shaft as I do with all my reels. If your looking for a 300 low profile reel, the Diawa is highly recommended.

From: Greg: San Pedro 9/17/21

Comments: Let me tell you if you're thinking about spending the money to get this reel, DO IT!! This is such a powerhouse with an amazing line compacity, a breeze to cast large baits, and an impressive drag. Daiwa never fails.

From: Zachary: Tennessee 9/4/21

Comments: Solid reel! Super smooth, long casts, perfect for my Hinkle trout and other large swimbaits and glides. Getting ready to add a second and more to come.

From: Darrel: Washington 6/28/21

Comments: Powerhouse no backlash go to reel for A-Rigs, swimbaits, glide baits. Paired up with megabass destroyer bunker buster. Recommend this reel.

From: Unknown: Kelseyville, CA

Comments: I got this reel specifically for throwing large Glide/Swimbaits. It is an excellent reel. Just caught by first 7.5lb Largemouth using the Gantarel. The low profile and large crank are excellent. This reel does not disappoint.

From: Ryan: Fort Worth, TX 4/21/21

Comments: Absolute tank of a reel. Have thrown baits as small as a 6" Magdraft up to 9-10" glides as well as umbrella rigs and this handles them perfectly.

From: Josh: Spartanburg, SC 4/24/21

Comments: Recently got this reel for swim-baits/A-rigs, aiming for giant bass and stripers. Solid reel, smooth retrieve and on casting. No problem with 65 lbs braided line connect to 20-25 lbs with a blood knot going through the T-wing. Perfect reel for fishermen horsing in giant fish.

From: Unknown: 4/25/21

Comments: Highly recommend this reel for any swimbaits > 1oz. Handles line very well and very easy to dial in on the fly. I thought I liked my Tranx 300 but this blows the tranx out of the water!

From: Evan: Saugus, MA 4/2/21

Comments: I absolutely love this reel. I am using this reel for throwing swimbaits from 1 to 6 ounces, and I feel that it handles the heavier swimbaits very well. This reel casts very well, and I am able to cast my swimbait pretty far. What I like about this reel is, the deep spool, the 110mm handle that comes on it, the amount of drag it has compared to other 300 size reels, and how smooth it is. If I was going to get another 300 size baitcasting reel for throwing swimbaits, I would definitely buy one of these again.

From: Charles: 3/10/21

Comments: Hi I am not trying to bring down Diawa they are probably the best reel company out there. I have been looking for a swimbait reel for a while now and I took a look at the 200 and the 300 size tatulas, The 300 only gives you 10 more yards of line distance!!!

From: Bryce: Redding 2/23/21

Comments: Super smooth, casts a mile. I really like the larger handles. Slightly larger than the Tranx300. Wide range of gear rations. I'll be buying more.

From: Byron: Columbia, TN 2/1/21

Comments: I have a 100 and a 200 and this 300 may be the beast I need to throw some larger lures for pike, musky and donkey largemouth. I threw a few musky lures last fall and it is going to take a little more practice to get it dialed in. Well done Daiwa!

From: Robert: North Liberty 1/7/21

Comments: I've owned a Tranx 300 since they were released and have been anxiously waiting for a 300 sized low profile reel that can compete with it. Look no further, enter the Tatula 300. Although the Tranx 300 has been a reliable workhorse, I was still left wanting more refinement, power and the overall design of the Tranx (and newly released Curado 300) was just a tad outdated which is quite disappointing, my dream reel would be a 300 sized Bantam 300 but I don't see it anytime soon. The Tatula 300 at a first glance is just a monster of a reel with powerful, perfect sized 110MM handles (which the TRANX should have). The thumb bar takes a little more effort to depress but that's how you know you have a HEAVY duty reel capable of throwing the biggest and baddest lures. The Tatula's TWS with big line is game changing for throwing big baits a long way, way better than the Tranx 300. I can also comfortably cast a 3/8oz jig with no trailer, 65LB smackdown braid 25-35 yards easily making the reel (if you can handle the weight) a great all purpose medium to heavy duty reel. Now the only question is, does it stand the test of time? We will see.

From: Benjamin: Minnesota 12/29/20

Comments: Well it's great but be warned, the Lexa had a problem with the click engage when turning the handle when casting, figured well let me send it in for repair, Diawa was fantastic to deal with, then it started to happen again (got worse) so I decided to invest in the Tatula 300, beautiful great reel cast a mile, smooth, great drag and pretty light, but unfortunately it started to do the same thing !! I've talked to a few other people, and my local fishing shop and it's a current complaint, btw I've taken it out 3 trips maybe 6 hours of use, I'm not a giant bait guy  I've honestly used it for throwing a 6in bucca only and yeah I'm disappointed a little but oh well be warned.

From: Jose: Bakersfield, CA 12/19/20

Comments: Hands down one of the best reels I have ever... EVER, had the pleasure of throwing. Smooth, casting, powerful cranking, fast... FAST

From: Unknown: 11/15/20

Comments: Gear ratio is a ++. Good ratio to pick off from thus enabling this reel to utilize more application beyond deep cranking, swimbait etc. Can be use as a frog reel also or big top water lures for faster line pick up as the 8.1 ratio have a 42.5 inch per turn which is equal to that of the zillion 10.0 IPT. Drag power is a ++.24.5 ish drag power is very over powering. I am sure some mods can make increase it futher.Smooth drag also. Spool: i can see why they design the spool narrower than the lexa. The narrow spool allow longer casting vs. The wider spool. This has been observed base on the metanium 20 spool design for being narrower to increase spool speed. The trade off?Can be bad for line management and more line digging into spool due to narrow overlays. Brake: uses the standard Magforce. Not magforce Z with the moving cup. This may limit the use of lighter lures which benefits from mag Z and SV.But for large bait mag force will be enough. Ergonomics: the narrow spool design result in a reel that is taller. It sits taller than the lexa but also it is more narrow compare as well. The lexa is wider. Trade off you can say but a reel of this size isnt ment to be palmed. If you want to palm your reel, stick to your curado 70, slx, tatula sv etc and give up swimbait life. TWS: this is a plus. Many swimbait reels have bigger spool but have smaller eye guides. The use of the tws on this is a plus because bigger spool reel do seem to benefit the tws more so than the smaller bass and finess reel do.Bigger line will flow easier so this is thinking right direction. Reel design:like how they move all the screw from the outside plate to the inside like they did on the steez CT.The handle is large for sure with extra huge handles knobs. Overall I will say this is a good reel. How does it stack up to the new curado 300? Or the tranx 300?Idk. I do know that the new curado 300 have no micromodule gear and utilize vbs brakes.I would wish shimano step it up and do micromodule and svs on the new curado 300 instead. The tranx 300 is fairly smooth. But it does sits high as well.About time Daiwa put out a good swimbait reel. The lexa looks old now.

From: Covida: Saint Paul, MN 11/3/20

Comments:Only had it out once and loved it.Throwing big baits for stripers on flats and want to throw long distances so not to spook.

From: Richard: Sacramento, CA 10/24/20

Comments: So far an great reel, Would I buy another one?? maybe...

pro's :

Big line spool Caught my interest, I personal use an 50 lb braid get roughly around 140ish, cast amazing out the box, all I had to do was adjust the number dial on the side and that was it. T wing another unique design, does help guide the line

Weight of the reel + rod setup isn't bad

Cranking Ratios of your needs are plus

Con:

The reel looks funny because of the large spool size and frame built around it, kind of bulky for me "maybe someone with larger hands won't mind". I personally like a more flat spool built vertically, instead of an increase of horizontally spool growth, that would look more pleasing to the eye. like most Abu Garcia reels with higher line capacity. the only down side is that, they don't have multiple speed ratios reel to choose from, ending not fitting your fishing setup.

From: Unknown: Minnesota 10/11/20

Comments:BUY THIS REEL. I cannot possibly explain how smooth this reel is. I slapped it on a Blackhole hurricane monster snakehead rod. 8' rated for up to 3 ounces. effortless casts out to 30-40 yards. The 8:1 is the bomb. I love having the super high speed retrieve in case trying to get past the pads without hanging up. There will be many more of these in my collection.
