Great Top Water RodA bargain at the original price, a steal at the sale price. I'm a Megabass fan boy, and the otomat is my go to top water rod most of the time. But when I want to throw larger poppers and really bomb casts, I pick up the combat stick. 5 of the 9 guides are double footed, the camo grips( which I dig) are mellower in person than the photos, and the blank has a cool iridescent wrap, all in all great JDM styling. I also throw smaller frogs with it. Great tip and a ton of backbone. A pleasure to fish paired with a Tatula SV TW.

Previous Feedback

Comments: Haven't used much of the regular rods other than the MH Spinning (which is actually outstanding as an all-around spinning rod); but the 7'0" and 7'3" Glass rods are phenomenal rods for bladed jigs. Never done great on them until this year when I picked these up! Fair warning: They are a bit on the heavy side. Despite that, the power curve, backbone, and sensitivity (as much as a glass rod can be) is excellent. The only alternative I would consider would be a St. Croix Legend. However, the Evergreen Combat is rated a bit higher (up to 2oz) and great for when you're running the chatter bait through and out of the weeds.

From: JLieu: Minneapolis, MN 8/16/23

Comments: Wow! The 7'1" Medium rod is amazing! I throw all kind of baits with it, Senkos, small cranks, big cranks, jerk baits, wake bakes, small swill baits, frogs, this rod does it all. I am impressed. Have not tried texas rig or jigs jet, that is next. Will report back!

From: MATT: AZ 8/7/23

Comments: I purchased the 7'3" md hvy glass, strictly for chatterbaits , and have had it now for maybe 2 years. I'm a little guy at 5'4" so after a day of slinging this my arm does feel it but man does it do its job PERFECTLY! caught my PB snake head of a little over 20 pounds and this Rod did an amazing job of holding up and putting pressure on the fish! The only thing better in my opinion is the Evergreen phase rod which is easily double the price. All in all though this is my literal favorite rod to have on me

Comments: This review is for the 7'8 XH .5-4oz First of all, no pictures I saw of this rod did it justice. I own several Megabass rods including destroyers and this thing has got that JDM drip for DAYS- way above its price point IMO. Fantastic fit & finish, beautiful blank. I was not a fan of the camo grips in pics but in person it looks and feels great. I purchased this rod to throw 1-3oz topwaters and plugs in saltwater for stripers & blues and it is an absolute beast for that duty. Definitely faster in taper than I was anticipating and it has a ton of backbone without being a broomstick. I don't think I'd throw less than 1oz on it but wow what a great rod for the beefier end of the spectrum. Very workable butt length for a 7'8 XH too, I can cast & walk the 7" docs and megadog 180s like a dream and feel every strike with my diamond tube jigs. 10/10 would buy again!

Comments: Broken rod and poor customer service from Daiwa. I bought the 7'3" Heavy Moderate/Fast model mid '19 and enjoyed it up until it broke mid cast at the handle below the reel seat. All of my rods are well taken care of and this rod got very little use before failing. I contacted Daiwa per the evergreen website for warranty claims, paid to have it shipped in a rod tube to them, and they concluded it was not eligible for replacement. They did offer me a discount on a new rod but said this model is back ordered until mid February of 2022. Not satisfied and no interest in more evergreen rods for me.

Comments: DISAPPOINTED. Second Evergreen Rod, have really enjoyed them however this one broke at the handle out of nowhere mid-cast. Very well taken care of and light use. Spent good money to FedEx my rod, narrative, all the documentation and extras to Evergreen/Daiwa Warranty Center and received no help and no explanation - just an email in return. Evergreen/Daiwa customer service was a joke and said that it wasn't a manufacturers' defect with no other response. I won't buy another Evergreen and I'm so disappointed.

Comments: The 8' XH is an absolute beast of a flipping stick. It is sensitive enough for the price and balances well. This is a 1.25-3oz punching rod, it was made for the absolute thickest, heaviest cover. It overpowers lighter weights, but it is great for its intended purpose.

Comments: Ok I must say this probably takes the cake as my favorite rod. I have several rods in the $200 range. I have this rod in the 7'2H and it is excellent! The blank is like a broom stick. I fish primarily for snakehead and this rod handles them perfectly. My biggest catch recently was a 39" musky on this rod and it performed beautifully! Some people may not like the aesthetics, but for me it's right on the money in terms of the look and style of the rod. Highly recommended!

From: Truong: Woodlynne 10/19/19

Comments: Ok. I've owe this rod for over a month now. Here's my honest review. I give it a 4.5/5. Just like everyone says, glass rods suck with sensitivity and feels bottom heavy. But I wanted to play with it and get used to it. DO NOT UNDER ESTIMATE THIS ROD!! I haven't lost a single bass crankbaiting yet!! The back bone is good and the tip is very nice! I paired it up with a curado 200HG 5:4:1 ratio and it's awesome!! I can't say enough that I love cranking now!

From: Joe X: Brooklyn Park , MN 8/23/18

Comments: I have the 7'3" Heavy Glass rod.  Just as "Jmoney" says, glass is heavy.  All my glass rods I have ever used are larger in diameter and heavier than graphite blanks. That's just science. This rod handles fish unbelievably well. I have caught hundreds of fish on this rod including dozens 5+ pounds and never worry about them getting unbuttoned. Excellent rod A++

From: Ogden: 8/10/18

Comments: I picked this up and the same week, my friend picked up a St. Croix Legend Glass rod. Every single thing about his rod was better. It was more sensitive by MILES, it wasn't as heavy, it didn't feel as clumsy, the hook up ratio was better because of the taper speed .... this Evergreen rod was horrible. Price difference? $40. It honestly felt like the difference between an Ugly Stick and a $200 rod.

From: Unknown 8/9/18

Comments: I got the 7-1 medium for topwater plugs. It is actually designed for topwater and jerkbaits up to 2 oz. has a lot of tip and very well balanced for a 7-1rod. No tip heavy at all and shoot accurate casts. A lot of back bone.  Awesome craftsmanship too. Highly recommend.

From: Jerry 6/19/18

Comments: This review is on the 7'1" M XF topwater/jerkbait rod which I've got paired up with a Concept A and 13lb Defier Armilo mono. The lure rating is off on this stick, 1/4oz to 3/4oz is closer to what it should be, though it does excel at the lower end of this rating, and with lighter line you can probably go down to 1/8oz. The XF action is spot on, the tip is super soft and almost behaves like glass before the backbone kicks in, making this stick almost feel like a ML instead of a M or a composite instead of graphite.  This rod is built for treble hook baits and performs as such. Poppers, smaller spook like baits, jerkbaits work extremely well with this rod, but it has become my go to 1.0 and 1.5 sq bill rod. The super soft tip absorbs runs and surges very well to keep fish pinned to it. Overall this rod has been great to fish with and I would recommend it to anyone that is looking for a new treble hook bait rod.

From: Steve: MN 6/5/18

Comments: Rod is legit! It is glass and glass rods are heavy stop complaining.

From: Jmoney: AZ 4/26/18

Comments: I tried the 7"3" Glass MH to throw Chatterbaits on the Kissimmee Chain.  It is a very nicely made rod.  Nice reel seat that secures reel well. Excellent finish.  Cons:  Very heavy and wore my arm out after 5 hours of fishing.  Horrible looking Camo handle.

From: Hendrix: Orlando, Fl 3/25/18

Comments: Just picked up the 7" glass rod and took it out for the first time on 2/17/18 and, boy am i impressed. I went just to test it out throwing lipless and, square bills on it feels awesome loads up perfectly, sensitive and, it is plenty strong. I eventually hooked into a 2 pounder and, it handled it with ease.

From: paul: california 2/21/18

Comments: Purchased the 7'3 heavy mf. Not a fan of the camo grips but the rod itself is beautifully done. Blank and guides are true, the tip is not soft but not stiff either. It's got alot of backbone and made pulling fish out of thick cocktail clumps this last fall pretty easy. The rod weighs in at exactly 5.400oz and is slightly tip heavy depending on the reel fixed to the blank not enough to be bothersome or draining. Really good sensitivity and is best suited to jigs and light punching duties. I would recommend this rod to those who are interested in purchasing one of the combat sticks. After reading the TT review on the medium casting I will likely be picking that one up as well. Hope this review helps.

From: H: Minnesota 1/21/18

Comments: Purchased the 7'3" Heavy Moderate/Fast. Paired it up with several different reels, balance point seems to be right around the top of the fore nut to the base of it; depending on the reel. Making it slightly tip heavy, though not enough to be bothersome. Sensitivity is good, the tip is about average in limberness, not flimsy while not a pool cue either, and the backbone once loaded up is stout. Threw various baits with it; chatterbaits, swimjigs, a couple topwaters, while it can do all these things ok, the rod is ideal for jig fishing, texas rigging, smaller swimbaits and some punching duties. Not a fan of the camo grips personally, but once you get past that aesthetic, the rod itself is really a beautiful piece of work. Pairs well with black, white, or silver reels. If you're looking to try something new and need a new jig rod, I'd say give this stick a shot.

From: Justin: MN: 12/28/17

Comments: The 7'3" Heavy Glass rod is really great for Chatterbaits but ridiculously heavy compared to some other rods I have used.  It is great for fishing Jackhammers around grass but for open water or lighter cover applications I'd personally rather use a lighter rod.  I caught around 100 bass in 2017(from dinks up to 7.2 lbs) on a BPS 7' MH Crankin' Stick- which I still love for chatterbaits.  I agree with the premise of using a glass rod for chatterbaits.  It is the best option.  I wouldn't put a really light reel on this rod because it already isn't going to be considered light so just throw a Tatula on it.

From: Rob: Dallas, TX 11/14/17

Comments: This is an exceptional rod of fine quality and craftsmanship for the price. It feels very reminiscent of the Shimano Zodias during casting, but maybe not quite as light. I own the 7'3 Heavy and it is very accurate and versatile. I use it for a range of power applications including hollow body frogs, buzzfrogs, buzzbaits and spinnerbaits. It truly is a fine piece from Evergreen!

From: Unknown 8/8/17

Comments: Great Rods for the money. I own all 5 and I can honestly say that these are the best rods. These rods are worth way more than they are priced at. If you are on the fence about these rod, just buy them. The 7'3 Heavy Glass is the best chatterbait rod, paired with a steez A and a Jackhammer.

From: Ryan: Iowa 8/1/17

Comments: I have the 7' med hvy glass, still getting used to the handle size but the rod is very good at trowing shallow and medium diving cranks. The handle gauge is a little larger than I would like but not to crazy. The description shows a slow action but it's more towards moderate. The quality seems excellent and it does keep fish buttoned up so I am happy with the purchse. NOTE: I have small hands so guys with bigger hands may find the handle size to be perfect.

From: Paul TX 7/31/17

Comments: Just got the 7,3 heavy love it I have caught at least 40 bass in 2 days on this rod it is very sensitive tons of back bone you can do anything with this rod from dragging a big worm or jig or flipping heavy cover just wish they more of them like some 7,3 mh for swim jigs and spinner baits

From: Michael woods: La 7/19/17

Comments: This is a great rod they are worth way more than $200. It's super sensitive and is by far the strongest rod I own. I have many other glass rods but none feels as sensitive or as strong as the 7'3 Heavy Glass Chatterbait rod. I can't wait to fill my rod locker full of these.

From: Unknown 7/4/17

Comments: Awesome rod!! I got the 7'3" heavy glass vibrating jig rod for the jackhammer chatterbait. It is a high quality rod that is affordable. I'm not a big fan of the camo grips but they feel great. It has a soft feeling tip but has backbone as well. I highly recommend this rod if you like to fish chatterbaits.
