Overview

Designed by one of the best crankbait anglers of all time and the world’s most dominant tournament angler, Kevin VanDam, the Lew’s KVD Composite Cranking Casting Rods are specifically designed to enhance the performance and hook up ratios of crankbaits. Made with a composite blank construction, the Lew’s KVD Composite Cranking Casting Rods deliver parabolic actions that cast crankbaits incredibly long distances to achieve maximum time in the strike zone and maintain constant pressure when fighting fish to increase your landing ratio with treble hooked lures. They also feature a proprietary Full Contact reel seat that increases contact with the blank to transmit more vibration into your hand for increased sensitivity.

Improving efficiency on the water, the Lew’s KVD Composite Cranking Casting Rods are equipped with a patented No Foul Hook Keeper to keep your baits secured during transport and eliminate wasted casts or line fouling issues like other hook keepers. Finished with stainless steel guide frames and aluminum oxide inserts for improved balance, the Lew’s KVD Composite Cranking Casting Rods deliver unmatched performance for crankbait anglers.

Features:

-Composite blank construction
-EVA split-grip handles
-Proprietary Full Contact reel seats

Nice RodGood price for a dedicated cranking rod. I wasn't sure how much of a difference there would be. It's a huge difference from my other rods! Definitely soft tip with parabolic action but I like that it still has a decent back bone to it as well. This is the 7'10" M that I'm talking about here. I haven't tried any others but I am probably going to get the 7'4" H as well.

Great trap rodFor the money cant beat this rod. The CC4 is great for traps with the soft tip keeping them on to the net. Yes they are a little thick but it doesn't bother me.

Can't go wrong for a rod under $100Casting distance and sensitivity is certainly there. Great back bone, you can really pull on this crank rod. Now the handle is too much for me. If you don't mind the thickness of the handle cause it sure is a broomstick.

Best value for money rod I have ownedThis is the first time I have tried a composite rod and I am really impressed. This thing casts like a bullet and has enough flex to absorb the violent head shakes of the Redfin Perch we have here in Australia which means more fish landed and fewer hook pulls.

Comments: This was my first composite rod and overall I'm happy with the performance and the build quality. I am used to a stiffer rod due to the relatively thick grass that I fish on my home lake, so although this rod has a good bit of backbone, the softness of the tip makes pulling free of grass tough sometimes. It often is hard to tell if my lure is free of grass or not, and I end up finishing the cast with some grass stuck on a treble hook without realizing it. The biggest thing I wasn't ready for was the thickness of the bottom half of the rod. If you're used to the other rods on the Lew's KVD lineup, this one is much thicker and overall tougher to palm comfortably. It's likely just the nature of a rod like this but it's worth mentioning because it jumped out to me. I'll continue to use it paired with the Lew's KVD LFS. It might not be the perfect rod I was looking for but it's a massive improvement over the other rod I was using.

Comments: I used this rod ONCE! ONE CAST!!! I am a Disabled Veteran and have not been doing well for well over a year now as my back has once again failed. I bought this rod last spring, but I never even took it out of the shipping tube as I was unable to fish last year, period. I was unable to use it at all until this past Tuesday evening, July 11th. I was on the Susquehanna River although that has little to do with what happened as the rod snapped on my 1st cast! The rod broke right at the next to the last eyelet and it is remarkable in that there is not a nick, scratch or any visible damage at all! I have rods that I have been using HEAVILY for 20 years in some cases. I bought this rod for throwing smaller, lighter crankbaits specifically for the Susquehanna River where I fish (Pittston, Pa area) as there is a LOT of pea gravel in water ranging from 2-7' deep with the vast majority of productive water right around the 3-4' range. When everything works out a small crankbait that dives 3-4' is like fishing in a hatchery and with my stiffer rods I was losing too many good bass hooked on crankbaits which was the impetus for buying this rod. I never even had the opportunity to see how this rod handled, if it would increase my landing rate on pig smallmouth that hit a small crankbait. The rod snapped on the cast using a small Lucky Craft crankbait! I thought about calling Tackle Warehouse until I looked up to see when I purchased this and being it's over a year, I'm certain it is out of warranty. I love Tackle Warehouse. This isn't on them, period. This had to have had an internal flaw in the blank from the get-go. I mean, this rod never left the tube it came in until a couple of weeks earlier when I put the brand-new reel I bought at the same time on and spooled it up with Sunline fluorocarbon line. It never had a lure tied on until Tuesday. I wish I could buy nothing but St Croix's mid to higher grade rods as I've had many of these for 15-20 years but being disabled and no longer making a very good living a LOT of fishing gear is simply no longer within my reach. I mean, I am no longer able to operate a foot-controlled trolling motor and can't afford the 24v 80lb thrust bow mount tiller trolling motor that would allow me to continue to use my boat as the price of said trolling motor is FAR OUT OF REACH for me...so my boat is useless to me. I would sell it, but my youngest son (in college) is just as addicted to bass fishing as I've been since I was 11 years old, so I'll keep it for him. With this being said, I'd look at other rods. I've never had a rod break like this in my 40+ years of fishing. Sure, I've broken rods in rear hatches, jammed the tip into the ground and broke it but never have I even seen a rod with a perfectly clean snap, especially on the 1st ever cast while using a small, light crankbait.

Comments: One of the best crankbait rods I've ever used! Great sensitivity and feel!

From: Tom: Jacksboro Tn usa 6/26/23

Comments: I love the new kvd cranking rod it's very accurate when casting up under trees boat docks with a strike King Chick magnet or square bill it has a great amount of tip when the bass come up on the bank and hit it at the last second the tip goes a long ways and also great for underhand cast when u are in tight positions

From: Clayton : Cocoa FL 5/14/23

Comments: My first composite rod and I'll buy more. Great feel and sensitivity, great casting distance and plenty of back bone to fight big fish. Can't beat the bang for the buck.

From: Dan: Clarksville, TN 4/5/23

Comments: I love this pole. It has a soft tip and plenty of backbone to get the big fish in the Boat.

From: Charley: MS 2/13/23

Comments: This is a very good crankbait rod. I use it to cast squarebills and you can really sling them in with it. Will probably buy another one.

From: Gary: Warsaw 1/26/23

Comments: This is an excellent trap rod, the micro guides really extend the casting difference. The rod loads up when you get a strike and does not pull the hooks out of the fish's mouth.

From: Scott: READING, PA 12/23/22

Comments: Awesome Awesome Rod! I bought this rod after one of mine snapped. I caught a fish my first outing and have caught several in the last few months. Very pleased with this purchase!

From: Daniel : Irvine, CA 11/18/22

Comments: This rod handles great. love that is a medium/ medium. handle the 5xd without a problem and has enough backbone. I boat flipped a 7lber with 14lb fluoro and wasn't worried.

From: carter: 11/2/22

Comments: Purchased a cc1 to fish flat sides and square bills, crank bait fishing is my favorite way to catch bass. Absolutely loved the rod on first trip paired with lews LFS it will send a crank bait! I found the cc 1 to be a great all around rod for crank baits, chatter baits and spinner baits. Well balanced, comfortable soft grip, great action and sensitivity plus the back bone to pull the big ones in.JOB WELL Done! Thanks to tackle warehouse for keeping my orders coming!

From: Unknown: Georgia 7/17/22

Comments: I really like this rod for casting crankbaits. Like it so much I bought another. It has great sensitivity, casts super far, and has enough back bone for a solid hookset.

From: Unknown: 6/13/22

Comments: This is a great rod, feels great and casts great. cant wait until I get a few more on the deck.

From: Unknown: 5/16/22

Comments: Have not had the chance to really put this rod to the test, as I live in NY and this was a winter purchase with dreams of the spring. I have gotten to throw it out a few times on Cayuga lake to just see how it felt, and it casted like a dream. I am not a crankbait kind of guy (forcing myself to get better with them) so no clue about sensitivity or whether or not it felt right. As I do not throw cranks consistently. I can tell you that this is the first time I have spent over $50/60 on a stand alone rod. I got an Laser SG1 Heavy rod last year that I frog with, which caught its fair share last year without an issue. However, when I got the KVD Cranking rod the step up in quality was quite noticeable. Fairly certain the SG1 will be replaced this upcoming winter by a KVD IM8 Heavy rod.

From: Zak: New York 3/14/22

Comments: Used kvd quantum rods for a long time. This rod is better by leaps and bounds. It's fairly light for composite. And the handle is the perfect length for what I do. I generally only throw a crank bait in super shallow water. So the square bill rod is perfect.

From: Jeremiah: Texas 3/11/22

Comments: Great rod great action> I have three of these rods. One for square bill. One for chatter baits. last but not least frog and flipping rod. Very high quality rod for the price point.

From: Unknown: 2/19/22

Comments: Purchased for my brother in Texas. He uses the rod for squarebill and Jerkbait. Loves the rod lite with just the correct sensitivity for his fishing.

From: Unknown: 1/4/22

Comments: Amazing squarebill rod! Great feel, great action and awesome price point! Best cranking rod on the market at this price!

From: Jason: Waco, TX 12/22/21

Comments: Great rod! A little heavy but overall best cranking rod I have used in sometime now.

From: Unknown: Oklahoma 11/17/21

Comments: I picked up 2 of these rods. The 7'4 LKVDCC4 and the 7'4 LKVDCC5. These rods both feel great, they're tip down technique rods, so they're supposed to be tip heavy and they feel great for me. The rods are sensitive and their moderate actions keep fish pinned. The 7'5 CC5 is one of the best bladed jig rods I've used and I've tried several. It has the soft tip to let them eat the bait, the backbone to drive the hook home, and enough backbone to rip the bladed jigs free of grass. The CC4 is a great Medium crank bait rod for anything around 3/8 oz (fishes and bombs a Bandit 300 series great). The negative: Micro guides, not a huge deal since I'm throwing mostly flouro on these rods, but if your throwing braid to leader, even a tight FG knot will risk snagging and ripping out a guide insert eventually. These guides are MICRO. The hook keeper's below the reel, like a drop shot weight keeper. Maybe some will like it, but for me, it wasn't what I liked for treble hooks. I just added a large Cali Clip above the reel and fixed my problem easily but it's worth mentioning.

From: Dan M: WI 10/15/21

Comments: Bought one, used it, loved it. Going to order another one. Also ordered the KVD lews new reel. A great pair.

From: Wayne: Emory, TX 9/13/21

Comments: This rod is an awesome rod for chatter bait & 2.5 crank bait. I paired it with a Lew's 5:1:1 wide bait casting reel. You can cast it a mile & feel everything. Saving up to buy another one.

From: Gary: Michigan 9/9/21

Comments: Great rod for the money, really helps landing big bass when using treble hooks

From: RIch: Ohio 8/26/21

Comments: Well first thing about the rod it looks great, and when I put a reel in it feels balanced and still very lite for a big rod. It throws lures a mile and when hooked up feels great ,on Australian bass only used in river situation so targeting suspending fish at 12 to 20feet. Great rod I am glad I got it.

From: Greg: Riley Hills, NSW Australia 8/15/21

Comments: Pretty sweet for $100.  Only MINOR issue is balance.  I fitted it with a Tatula 200 and will probably add a big Roland style rod butt to see if it balances any better.

From: Scott: Pittsburgh, PA 7/24/21

Comments: The perfect chatterbait rod. Solid backbone yet soft enough for chatterbaitts.

From: Dean: Ohio 5/21/21

Comments:Perfect action for cranking, enough give to keep head shaking jumpers pinned, awesome length for long casts, pairs perfectly with KVD reel, bass on 1st cast plus many more, no let down regardless of fish size.

From: Jon: Eagle 4/11/21

Comments: I've had lew's rods on my deck for a few years now. Needed a new medium to deep diving rod and decided to get the cc6, 7'10". This rod is awesome. With a full spool of line it will launch a plug. Feel is amazing, I can always tell what I'm hitting and you can pick up where you get your bites. My favorite part is probably how it loads up. Keeps fish pinned and puts more in the boat with the medium moderate action. Also disregard all the reviews talking about the balance point being to far up. When you are throwing wiggle warts to 20 plus ft diving crankbaits you have your rod tip down. I've thrown it all day with no hurt. Overall amazing rod.

From: Evan: Southeast, Iowa 4/8/21

Comments: Action is great when paired with a chatter bait. I do dislike the foam grip. Way to smooth and slippery, if it came with a cork grip it would be a great rod.

From: Dan: California 4/4/21

Comments: I picked up a 7'4" MH for throwing bladed jigs and the occasional lipless. I paired it with a Tournament MP reel which looks great together. I've had no issues throwing this from the bank all day. It loads up and takes what ever the fish can throw at it. I have been very pleased with this and plan on getting a GC set up next.

From: Chris: Iowa 4/2/21

Comments: When paired with a reel full of 14lb line, you had better eat your wheaties before fishing. Might also need to weight train proir to ordering, this is a beast of a rod and a bit on the heavy side. Almost compare it to swinging a sword. Other than the weight/girth (which is the composite composition) this is a good rod. Very sensitive, can cast a pretty good ways and handles well. This is a grown man fishing rod.

From: Brandon: Arkansas 3/21/21

Comments: So far impressed. Had success with the Lews TPS perfect crank back rod... opted to try this as as that rod is no longer available. Can't wait to try this out when the ice breaks!

From: Bryan: Indiana 2/7/21

Comments: This rod is a must. Feels very good in the hand, well balanced, sensitive tip, and when paired with the right reel it is awesome. I have a lews BB1 5:1:1 and you can throw a 8xd or 10XD's all day. This is a awesome second to none set up from a 2.5 to a 8xd. You can use a 10XD but after a hour or so my only complaint would be I'd like the handle to be a little longer! I will continue to use this rod with 10XD's everyday of the week.

From: Bradley: Texas 1/30/21

Comments: The quality of this rod is much better than any other $100 rod I've had. I ordered the CC5 for $80 during Black Friday sale. I needed a deep cranking rod and this one has performed well cranking 5XD and 6XD with the KVD 6.2 reel. I haven't tried it with a 8 or 10XD yet. The balance point is about 4 inches in front of reel but I actually like that since my rod is always pointed down when I'm cranking. The grip isn't anything fancy but it fits my hand well. Had plenty of sensitivity for me bouncing a crankbait off rocks. I'd say it's hard to beat this lineup of rods for the price and quality.

From: Colin: 1/17/21

Comments: So first off it's a good rod for the price but I got it on sale and in a rush. I got the 7'10" med/deep dive crank rod. It's not balanced like I thought it would be balance point with a reel is forward about 4 inch of reel. Just feels odd in hand. Grips are basic and not impressive or worth talking about really seen better on dirt cheap rods. The big kicker was it's only designed for 3/8oz max plugs? I didn't read close enough or just misread I don't know but swore it said 3/4oz. I don't know many deep diving plugs that are 3/8 seems like a pointless rod at this point to me but couldn't beat the price to try one out. If not for the price I got it for I wouldn't buy it or keep it. Have had many lews rods and was pumped for these but sadly not impressed at all with what I got.

From: Noah: Illinois 1/1/21

Comments: Awesome rod for big square bills and I also throw big spinnerbaits and chatterbaits too. Its light and sensitive to be a composite cranking rod and as far as it being tip heavy i don't feel it because as a cranking rod you should be holding it tip down to start with.

From: Joe B: 12/21/20

Comments: It is a good rod for the price. It is not really balanced how I thought it would be. It is very top heavy and super thick down at the reel seat which makes holding it all day exhausting. I sent it back for a refund.

From: Andrew: Wilson, NC 12/13/20

Comments: Wow.... Lew's and KVD really knocked it out of the park on the composite cranking rod. I got the CC1 for small crank baits and the first thing I felt was how light and balanced it is. Compared to the old KVD from Quantum, these are like a 1/10 the weight. The parabolic action is really nice on it too. I'm really impressed for the quality and value for $100. Some of my $200 or $300 rods don't compare to this.
