Overview

Based off of a 3D scan of a real bluegill, the Savage Gear Pulse Tail Bluegill LB Swimbait is as close as it gets to fishing with live bait. Made to look and move like the real deal, the Savage Gear Pulse Tail LB Bluegill Swimbaits feature a patent-pending split rear kicker tail that allows for a realistic swimming action, whether it is slowly crept along the bottom or moved across shallow cover with a steady thump.

Pairing perfectly with the Savage Gear Bluegill Hook , the Savage Gear Pulse Tail LB Bluegill Swimbaits feature a LB (Loose Body) design with a rapid interchange hook system, which allows anglers to seamlessly thread a hook through the slotted belly portion in seconds to create a streamlined presentation. Offered in a number of ultra-realistic photo print colors, the Savage Gear Pulse Tail LB Bluegill Swimbaits are a must-have any time you’re fishing around bluegill.

Comments: I bought several of the colors but have only thrown the White Gill so far. I'm mainly comparing this to the Sleeper Gill. I recently got to try this on a really windy (dirty water) day. The lure casts relatively ok in higher wind, but there were times I worried if I'd dislodged the hook on an aggressive cast. It swims well for me but open water feedback is low. I couldn't feel the tail kicking as much as the Sleeper Gill. Coming through cover was good, I did not snag on wood, rocks or whatever other mystery stuff was down below. Having the hook exposed below the lure does give you slightly more feedback that the buried approach with the sleeper gill. I got bite almost immediately on my first fast and completely whiffed on the hook set. Definitely need a concerted effort. Versus just reeling into them or a slight hip turn with the sleeper gill. I found the best approach was to treat it like a frog, feel the bite .. wait 1 second!. Hammer it. You miss some but the ones you do get are GOT. I don't think I lost a fish that I'd initially hooked. After you get the fish in and unhooked I found that you always have to reposition the hook as it gets push completely out. The screw at the front of the lure isn't super tight to the hook and seems to rip off the hook every time. You can clip it back on and pinch it shut with pliers but that's annoying. Hasn't ripped up the nose of the lure though so that's good. Slight nod to the way the sleeper gill is made here. The hook and weight of that system works together with lure where the Pulse Tail kinda works against the hook. Durability is good. I got bit about 6-8 times and hauled in four fish from 2-4 lbs. Lure is practically new looking. Substantially better durability than sleeper gill plastic. Overall I think the Savage Gear color options are much more realistic than MB options. Don’t know if that really matters but it is a consideration. In summary I found these to be decent lures. I think they are a little bit less effective than the sleeper gill but should prove to be longer lasting. After you destroy the plastic, you still have a good weighted hook too!

Comments: I wanted to like this lure so bad, but it's just a pain. It constantly wants to swim on it's side. I think it's because when I cast it the bottom fin will come over the weight on the bottom of the hook. It has a subtle tail kick. The bait itself looks amazing! I did bend the hook up a little bit hoping for a better hook up, but I never got that far due to it swimming on it's side. Just ordered a Hudd Gill, which I heard he did some improvements on to make swim better. Hopefully it will be better than this one.

Comments: The hook set required for the weedless bait is a little complicated at first, you need to let the fish have it for about 2 seconds much like a frog and then hammer home with the hook set. Overall great bait with an amazing swim and dead on colors. Would recommend this to anyone on a bluegill fishery.

Comments: I used the white Gill and swapped the hook to a Owner beast hookup. Caught 3-3.5 lb and a 7.1lber. I run my on a XH/F 7'6 rod on 25lb fc sniper. The owner hook increased my hookup ratio ten fold. Great bait but a subpar hook.

Comments: I was really excited to buy and try this bait.It looks like a dead ringer for a bluegill. However, I've had 5-6 bites on this bait and still have yet to hook up.I've tried regular hook sets, big hook sets, letting the fish have the bait for a second or two to let them really get it in their mouth...Nothing seems to work.I think I will try the regular version of this swimbait and "retire" this weedless version.

Comments:These brings the big girls out slow role on the grass edgeJust change the twist lock to a owner(large) and you won'tLoose the bait

From:Miguel: St. Cloud, FL 5/10/20

Comments: I have, well had 4 of these. Now I have 2, thanks pike! Anyhow, these work very well. I have had very good luck so far and honestly, the durability is pretty great. I've been throwing swimbaits for a few years now and SG does these very well. The kick is very subtle. It tracks great even at higher speeds with no surfing.

The hooks are mediocre as are most SG hooks, but a hone fixes that. I wouldn't hesitate to tell anyone to try these. I have 23 bass and 2 pike so far on the black gill color. That's awesome testiment to this bait as I fish Michigan. Not too much a swimbait state.... So far.
