Overview

Expanding the high successful Ott’s Garage series, the Rapala Ott’s Garage Tiny 4 Crankbait was developed by Bassmaster Classic champion, Ott Defoe, for those situations when the odds are stacked against you and you need a small finesse style crankbait to put fish in the boat. Made from premium balsa wood, it features a thin profile, flat sides, and a rounded circuit board bill that produces a very tight wobble and finesse-like action, which is deadly in tough conditions. The thin design and lightweight circuit board lip also moves less water and provides a sensitive feel of the bottom structure, so you know exactly when to pause your bait to trigger a reaction strike.

Outfitted with premium hardware as well, it’s armed with high quality VMC Black Nickel 1x Strong Hybrid Treble Hooks that provide unrivaled hook setting performance. Offered in a wide selection of Rapala’s proven colors, the Rapala Ott’s Garage Tiny 4 Crankbait will put fish in your livewell when nothing else will.

Not For Windy DaysI use a spinning reel for this lure. The whole braided line with the fluorocarbon leader setup just got to be a giant headache. I use 10-pound Trilene XL Low Vis Green and get all my fish in no problem. I also replace the hardware on OG Tiny. I use Gamakatsu short shank EWGs in size 6. I also downsize the split rings to #2 VMC black ones. I think it makes the hardware a little less visible.

4/5Great action on this little crank like you would expect on a Rapala. Tight wiggle that you can burn or fish slow. Definitely a fish catcher. I love it for the Fall when they are tough to catch and on small bait. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it is on the lighter side even for a flatsided crank. It's so narrow that any bit of wind will make it nearly impossible on casting gear (unless you're a BFS guy). Similar to how a small shad rap casts. But this isn't a bad thing as that's how you get the great action, just have to make sure you fish it on 10-12 lb line and a good quality baitcaster to get this most out of it.

Great CrankUnreal crank. I know Rapala isn't always mentioned in the highest of premium crankbait tiers, but this one is top notch. I have no issue casting this lure on a Daiwa Zillion with 12lb line. A Medium power moderate/mod.fast action rod helps. Deflects good, hooks hold good, stay fairly sharp after banging rocks, all else is good. Only negative I could imagine is the lure is very light so you need the right tackle.

UPDATEI'm writing an update on my last review. This thing not only catches smallmouth, largemouth, and pickerel, but while I was fishing for smallmouth a giant trout came and ate it too! This is a great multi species bait. Only now is it starting to show signs of wear after hitting many rocks and other hard objects. It is extremely durable and I highly recommend it.

Beautiful bait, Comes through cover wellStarted using this bait this fall in the chartreuse rootbeer craw color once the water dropped to 55 degrees. Surprisingly I kept catching fish down to 43 degrees up until mid/late November. It has nice hooks, and is a great design. The tight mellow wobble is great, and it comes through hard wood and rocks so great. It can bounce its way through some pretty thick laydowns, and triggers bass to hit when deflecting off wood and rocks. Been using it on a Dobyns Champion 704 carbon CB rod, with an Albebaran loaded with 20lb braid to a 12lb leader and can cast it well even though it's a light bait.

Comments: Throwing small cranks like this requires different tackle. 7' or longer light action baitcast rod, 8-10 lb line and the best reel you can afford that throws small baits a mile. This is the system I have been using for 20+ years. 2000+ fish tell me I am doing something right.

Comments: MAN. A very good little crankbait for catching numbers. Great price, good hooks, good looks, catches them in the brooks. Don't be shook, give this bait a look.

Comments: I haven't caught any fish on this or the slim yet but it's a very well made lure. Has nice hooks that don't need to be changed either. Hoping to improve my flatside game this spring ....

From: Derek: Ohio 4/6/22

Comments: Great size presentation. Little more aggressive dive and resistance than I expected. Challenging to cast unless you use lighter line on the right set up IMO.

Comments: Recently purchased the Green Gizzard Shad Tiny 4. Great action for Spring fishing in the North.

From: Kevin: New Hampshire 3/18/22

Comments: Went to the lake about a week ago and the water temp was 54 degrees. Got to fish about 4 hours. During that time I put 16 bass in the boat and had three 3 pounders. All were caught on the Classic craw color. They were chocking that bait. Great size however you may need to throw it on a spinning reel. Excellent hooks highly recommend these baits.
