Overview

Slightly smaller than the original Spro Fat John, the Spro John Crews Baby Fat John 50 delivers a highly-specialized action that is made for tempting bass in shallow waters. Reaching a maximum depth of 2-feet, the Spro John Crews Baby Fat John 50 is built with a precisely angled, fiberglass bill that allows it to kick left and right with a wild hunting action, and then re-align and return to center. This action has been specifically formulated to imitate a fleeing baitfish making every possible attempt to evade pursuing predators. Effective on a steady or blistering-fast retrieve, the Spro John Crews Baby Fat John 50 is equipped with two sticky-sharp Gamakatsu treble hooks that ensure rock-solid hook sets. Offered in a number of custom colors, the Spro John Crews Baby Fat John 50 provides a one-of-a-kind hunting action that is great for fishing over the tops of grass or shallow flats.

Comments: The body was super fragile. I bought 2 of these and only got to throw the first crank for about 10 minutes before I overshot a cast and thumped a rock on the bank, brand new little crank just split in 2. Unfortunately, I've banged other cranks on bridge pilings and rocks before like hard and never had one just split like this one. Maybe the cold made the plastic brittle or something, I don't know.

Comments: This is a super underrated crankbait!!! I have caught a lot of fish on this thing! Especially how it hunts from side to side you can draw strikes without having to hit cover like most crank baits.

Comments: I have been fishing crankbaits for a long time. This is the best pond crank I have found, for so many reasons. You should buy one, try it, and come back to buy more. Crank on.

Comments: If you're looking for the best Squarebill Crankbait, it's this one right here. Baby Fat John 50 is the best crankbait that I have thrown and it is almost unbelievable how many bites I have on this crankbait compared to the rest. There is a good selection of colors for this crankbait and my personal favorite is the Chart Black Lightning. If you bank fish on a pond, lake or river, I suggest you get this while you can because it will land you many fish!

Comments: I received this squarebill crankbait in two colors (Chart Black Lightning & Citrus Nasty) as a gift for Father's Day from my wife and son, which I was able to spend $50 on whatever Fishing gear that I wanted. With the store 15% off and 10% military discount, I couldn't refuse to pass up this offer. A big shout-out to Tackle Warehouse for this amazing deal! After trying it out in the water, I have to hand it down to SPRO because I really like the action of this squarebill and I wanted to get this color scheme. It moves in water unlike the other crankbaits (i.e. Rapala & KVD Silent Squarebill) that I use and it has super sharp hooks that my fingers got cut from carelessly pulling the weeds off the hook. The Chart Black Lightning squarebill has become my favorite crankbait, and I can't wait to try it out back in the waters that I grew up with (originally from WI but now living in NY). When I used this squarebill, I was not only getting hit from bass but also from little bluegills that attacked it, which I thought was funny. Maybe the only downside to this squarebill is the shiny scales. It's because I was scrape them off with my finger nails. But whatever the case, I don't mind it because like what I mentioned earlier, this squarebill has the color scheme that I wanted and when the scale comes off, the fish can see more of the light green chartreuse color. With all this said, I recommend this squarebill crankbait.

Comments: Been using these for a few years now they are one of my favorite shallow water lures of all time. I have caught sooo many big fish on these and they will work all year long. Very durable everything has seemed to hold up nicely. Depth depends on casting distance and how high or low you hold your rod tip. My favorite colors are Citrus Nasty and Chart Black Lightning. BUT.. Spro, I kindly ask that you PLEASE release more colors for these! Maybe one color that is really dark and then another that is more natural looking preferably something translucent for clear water.

Comments: My go-to for summer river crankbaiting.  I love the fiberglass bill

From: Chris: tiffin 12/28/17

Comments: Not impressed with the action. It's not hunting

From: Derek: Waco, texas 10/14/17

Comments: Best shallow square bill out!!!! When nothings working in my local river I tie this on and beat the banks to save a day.

From: Paul: TX 5/7/17

Comments: Just tried it yesterday and the post-spawn bass could not stay away from it. Hooks are grab n' hold sharp and don't need to be changed unless you are after 7+ bass. My non-rattling Citrus Nasty does kick out regularly, mostly on a fast retrieve, less at slower speeds. Makes a great topwater, too. On one cast got an overrun and before I cleared it, one had already hooked itself. Hope SPRO adds some of the Little John colors.

Comments: This little baby is going to catch me a lot of fish this season. First time out, with water temps in the lower 50s, the BFJ got me some fish that I believe would not have hit anything else. I can actually feel the lure "kick out" on a steady, straight retrieve.  It goes through cover well and floats up fast if you get it mired in the stuff. If you fish the shallows, get you some of these. Thanks TW, for offering these great cranks.

From: Edwin: Nashville, TN 4/8/14

Comments: This bait has such a strong thump it will only allow a slow to medium retrieve. I tried three at Pickwick fishing for smallies. 2 were swallowed by line siders that emptied my spool and popped my line; the other fell victim to a gar. Great baits, just make sure your using heavy braid and a baitcaster if there are big fish in the area.

From: Greg: AL

Comments: Maybe you got a bad batch Kevin. The ones I have all kick out from side to side hunting great baits as all of the little johns are!

Comments: These baits are awesome the best shallow spro's yet , But John Crews is a lieing when he claims these baits will hunt and run a foot wide at times lol . They come strait in like every other spro but these are the perfect size and shape for that spring and fall bait that is so deadly at these times . To me these are the best yet from the Spro line and I have 6 to 10 in every line they have out ,so I can speak from time on the water fishing there baits.

From: Kevin: KY

Comments: I love the SPRO Little John Series of crank baits. The SPRO Little John Fat John is great for fishing the skinny water. I can hold my rod tip up high and make it "buldge" on top or I can hold my rod tip low and get it to deflect off of stumps and rocks to trigger a reaction bite!

From: Eric: Cumming, GA USA

Comments: been using this square around the scattered grass with great results! I did replace the hooks with Gama ewg short shanks!
