Overview

Delivering Japanese-made performance, the Spro Essential Series Gouken Fluorocarbon Fishing Line is a premium fluorocarbon line that provides exceptional sensitivity and durability. Made for power fishing techniques, the Spro Essential Series Gouken Fluorocarbon Fishing Line is super small in diameter when compared to other fluorocarbons on the market and has minimal stretch, which helps anglers maintain contact with their lure to detect very light bites and subtle changes in bottom composition. It also provides tough-as-nails abrasion resistance for anglers fishing over rocks, logs, weeds, and jagged pieces of structure. Perfectly level wound onto the spool to reduce line twisting or kinks, the Spro Essential Series Gouken Fluorocarbon Fishing Line is a high-performance fishing line at an affordable price point.

Sensitivity is off the charts!I haven’t had much time using this, but in the few trips I have used it, it has performed good and the sensitivity is amazing! I actually had to adjust my reactions because I feel so much with this line. I was throwing an Underspin near rocks and even on a semi-slack line I would feel it when just the blade would barely tick a rock. I found this line from BassfishingHQ’s line testing videos where he found it was the best “overall” FC and since the previous line I tried had so many break offs in the first few trips I gave up on it and decided to try this and I am glad I did. The other line I tried wasn’t cheap crap either. In facts It’s funny that this line is almost half the price of the other line I tried recently, but it performs way better. If something changes I will update this review, but so far I really like it. I am using it as a leader from braid mainline and I am currently using the 12Lb.

Bad experiencesHeard good things about this line so I gave it a try. Bought 2, 14lb spools and 2, 20lb spools. Long story short I found that it was fraying mid spool on multiple rods and reels. Figured out that once it gets pinched or kinked it becomes extremely weak. Would not recommend.

Gouken LineI purchased this line after watching some tests online. Absolutely love it. Youtube video showing line tests and Gouken is superior out of 20+ brands.

My new favorite lineFluoro isn't always my favorite line for various reasons but I was impressed with how this line performs. I've mainly used the 16 and 20lb for my swimbait setups and I've definitely seen improvement over lines I've used in the past. It's easy to knot and has great abrasion resistance and I've yet to break a knot or cast off a lure even when throwing baits to 6 oz on 20lb. I've had only a couple minor backlashes that were my own fault but they came out surprisingly easy. I think its a lot less brittle/stiff and have had great results stopping a 6oz lure midair to prevent hitting the bank. Reminds me a lot of using Seaguar Fluoro Premier which is my favorite leader material for Tarpon. I'd absolutely recommend this to anyone skeptical about fluoro.

Spro flouroI really wanted to like this stuff. Super low stretch, very low memory, thin diameter. Has everything you would want in a line. I decided to grab a spool of the 16lb to use as a mainline on multiple setups since I heard so many positive things about it. But, now this line has cost me two separate big bass, both of which were most likely around 5lbs give or take on two different rods. The first time I was cranking the fish in and the line gave way which was weird because I had all the momentum on my side reeling the fish in. The second time I set the hook and the fish shook and completely trashed the line right after I set on it. Twisted it around a foot or so and split the line in multiple directions at the break point. I’m very meticulous in my knots and checking my line as well so this was especially frustrating. I think that since this line has such low stretch compared to other fluorocarbons, there is a lot less give and nowhere for that shock to go, causing it to break under the pressure. Or I could’ve just got a bad spool.

Comments: Great line! I initially bought it for crank bait line but then I started using the setup fishing below a dam for wipers. It has a smaller diameter than most lines which I greatly enjoyed. It's very tough to break as well. I caught multiple rocks while shore fishing and with the stretch I was able to wiggle quite a few baits loose. I had to break it once, which was difficult to do. Low memory as well. Give it a try, guarantee you'll love it.
