Never AgainI bought this reel thinking I would catch 30-pound catfish, but when I hooked one, the reel didn't break, instead, it flew off the rod into the lake. The line was still through the rings, and I had to pull in a 30-pound catfish with my bare hands. Never again.

Good Budget ReelI have owned two of these reels for several years. They are great as a budget reel, and you will be hard-pressed to find many other reels better than it in this price point. At the discounted price you would be crazy not to buy one if you need a good reel on a budget. Over the last couple years, I have purchased two more and all four of the reels I own have been reliable, and I have had no issues at all. The white does get dirty but that is just cosmetic. An external magnetic adjustment would be nice, so you don’t have to take off the side plate.

Not GreatWas pretty disappointed in this reel. Not very smooth at all & Casting distance not great either.

My reelI pulled out one of these reels today. I remember now why I put it away. The ant-reverse works some of the time. The reel handles look and feel terrible. The little black hook holder fell out.

Comments: David from Whitesboro is dead on. It's a pretty good reel, but does not work well with Braided line.

From: Unknown: 9/20/23

Comments: I have had this reel for 3 years now and all I can say is this this is trash. It started squealing when I cast and I can't fix it, I put reel oil in it and I put reel grease where I am supposed to put it and nothing works. It is out of warranty so I am not going to send it back and pay the money for a hundred dollar reel. Save the 30 bucks and buy a Diawa Tatula . They cast farther they have an aluminum frame, there smoother, and they just look sick.

From: Dean: Shasta Lake 3/30/21

Comments: This is a great reel for the price. Purchased the 8.1 over a year ago. been using it mostly for flipping banks and weed edges. Has been a great reel so far!

From: BSFishing: MN 11/10/20

Comments:First of all, this is a very serviceable reel for the price point. It is smooth and feels very good in my hand. I have the 8:1 reel and I use it for buzzbaits and such. The only negative I have is that this reel does not like braid at all. I have tried 20 to 40 lb and it just wont go any distance at all. Put on 15 lb fluorocarbon and it works fine.

From: David: Whitesboro, OK 8/3/20

Comments:I own three 13 Fishing reels and I had to replace two Anti-reverse clutch on this reel and another. Beware of AR clutch going bad after a few months of fishing.

From: Unknown: 11/20/19

Comments:Fantastic reel, great casting distance and super smooth retrieve. A great reel for a hundred bucks even though there are some better 100 dollar reels out there.

From:Unknown: 6/19/19

Comments:Well i got this reel thinking it was gonna be amazing, i was wrong i got it out on the water and first cast this reel was super loud and didnt cast far at all. The only way i got the reel to cast far was by putting it on free spool and thumbing it like crazy.

From:Hunter: 6/13/19

Comments:I'm kind of a tackle addict, but had never tried anything from 13 till this year. Have to say, I'm really impressed with the Origin C for the price. Comparing this to the Shimano SLX as I have 2 of them and they're at the same price point I would say you can't really go wrong with either of them if you have $100 to spend on a reel. If I had to choose one, I'd probably go with the Origin C based solely on the matte white finish cause they're so close performance wise.

From: Josh:Michigan5/22/19

Comments:I got the 6.6:1 for my square bill set up and this reel performs perfect. Super smooth reel. I cast my square bill crank bait a mile without effort. It looks great and feels great. It feels great for my hands anyway. Love fishing with it. I got BPS reels, Lew's, Shimano, Diawa and Okuma. 13 Fishing reels are vastly becoming my favorite reels. Still love my Lew's but this Origin C is awesome. I got it spoiled up with 12# PLine Tactical with a favorite white bird medium heavy moderate fast action.

From: Manny:Texas4/11/19

Comments:Good reel but not my favorite! I have a concept A and two Z's! Love them...I don't love the origin but I don't dislike it either! It throws great and doesn't backlash easily! I do like it but don't use it much because there are other reels I'd rather use, any of my Revo's or Shimano's.If you're really wanting to try one I'd say spend a few bucks more and go for the inception, but if you can't I'd just go for the Revo X! But again if you're insistent on getting this reel you should be fine. It's caught me some fish and works as it should! It's fine just not overly impressive! Try it out, it should treat you well, just doesn't get my motor running haha!

From: Andrew:Sumter 2/22/19

Comments:Started with 2 concept z's. They were two of the worst reels ive ever used. Noisey and loose. So I bought the origin tx and origin c to replace them, even put the CBZ bearings in both of them. The origin reels completely out perform and out class my concept z's. Tight, solid, light, quiet. I only wish the cast control knob clicked. With the cbz bearings installed they are just that much more amazing. I really thought 13 was garbage but these two low price reels proved otherwise, looking forward to the chrome coming out this year!

From: John - 1/4/19

Comments:This is not a good reel after the first two- three weeks the drag was stripped out and I had only caught 3-4 fish with that reel. Quantum reels and lews reels feel better in the hand and cast better. And they hold up way longer than this reel did

From: Evan:Smackover, AR 6/5/18

Comments:Best $100 reel ive used! I got 2 of these last christmas (2017) and i am very happy with them. I have the 6.6:1 on the 13 fishing defy black crankbait rod (7' M) and its amazing! I have the 8.1:1 on the 13 fishing fate chrome rod (7'1" MH) and i mainly use it for bottom baits and it is great for that! Only had one start making a noise once, then I oiled it and it was back to normal. Overall I love this reel and 13 fishing! Will be buying a Concept A and an Inception!

From: Evan - Monticello, GA 4/26/18

Comments:Its a very smooth reel a really good reel for the price i would recommend getting the reel i give it 10 thumb ups.

From:Nicholas: Hunstville 2/13/18

Comments:I'm not sure what people mean by "good reel" unless you are comparing it against a $500 reel but if you are putting this reel up against other $100 reels , i would say it is one of the best.I have numerous $100 reels from a Pro Qualifier 2, to a Pfleuger Extreme, to an Abu Garcia Revo X and lastly I have a Lews Speed Spool. All of these aforementioned reels are solid especially the Lews however for $100 the nest of the bunch is my 13 Fishing Origin C.It just just such a solid reel and does so many things great, i can't say enough about how much i enjoy this reel.I wish i could trade some of my other reels for additional Origin C's, its a great reel, you'll be super happy with it.

From:jrbz881/29/18

Comments: I've had my Origin for about 5 months now and I paired it with a Fate Chrome and put both of them to serious work. It flips perfect into cover and works just about as hard as my Concept A. I mean, for the price its a great reel and will attack anything you throw it into, but just be ready for a couple of backlashes until you set it up perfectly for the job. But if you are having second thoughts, just take the chance, it's what I did!!

From: Unknonwn: Texas 12/26/17

Comments:honestly in my opinion if your looking for a good price reel that isn't bad there twos reels to go with and its this reel and the shimano casitas the origin c isn't a bad reel i can cast pretty far with this reel its not a horrible reel but its not the best, but this reel is good for the price fluorocarbon mono and braid are amazing on this reel compared to the others but in my opinion if your just using it for regular fishing use 30 pound braid can cast pretty far this is my personal preference with this reel.

From: Bixler - 11/29/17

Comments:Good reel, not great, not bad. Exactly what you would expect from a 100$ reel, I think the bearing could be a little better, and the matte white finish is filthy after the first day.

From: Joshua - 10/30/17

Comments:Good reel until the drag quit working. The star drag was cinched down as hard as I could and the drag would never go up from basically 2 pounds of drag. Come on 13 fishing y'all are better than this

From: LAREDO 10/22/17

Comments:This reel is a great flipping reel in the 8:1 gear ratio. Super smooth and designed very well. For the 99$ price point this thing is dominating the game, I own many lews and daiwa reels, right now this is my favorite reel in my arsenal.

From: John: Okeechobee Fl 8/10/17

Comments: A very good reel for the 100$ price point. The only flaw I would say is that matte white finish gets dirty easily. Other than that, a beautiful reel. I put them above a lews speed spool lfs. Great reel for flipping because of the 8:1 gear ratio.

From: Jim: Fl 8/5/17

Comments:Awesome reel! Braid is the way to go with this reel. Took me a couple of days to get used to it and the more I used it the more I loved it. 10/10 13 Fishing has their stuff together with this reel.

From: Unknown 8/2/17

Comments:Very good reel so far for the price. Not as smooth as my Lews LFS speed spool, but it can cast just as far. The side plate to the brakes is a little hard to get off, but that's my only complaint. Definitely not a bad reel for the price.

From: Unknown MN 7/23/17

Comments:The tackle shop where I live got these in and Jesus Christ this real is bad ass for the price... 18 pounds of drags for a reel under 100 bucks is very impressive... the only thing I don't like is that you have to take off the side plate to access the breaks unlike the concept A I own.. if you only have 100 dollars for a reel this one is the way to go...

From: Isaac: Bakersfield 7/1/17

Comments:Won this reel in one of 13 Fishings Facebook Giveaways. Had it for a few weeks now and have been very impressed. For a $100 is very nice. I would say it slightly better than the lews Speed Spool LFS. Caught a 30'' Snook and a 33'' Red and it never missed a beat. PROs: Super light weight and fits well in the palm. Very smooth and casting distance is great. Cast control is great, no issues with overruns. Drag is very smooth and powerful, no jerking and inconsistencies. Flat White finish looks great. Cons: A little noisy but dosent effect smootheness. Theres a sharp edge on the side cover that eventually will make your palm sore. The white finish scracthes easy and shows wear. Overal its an outstanding reel and I would't hesitate to purchase another one.
